Probing the Market: New 223 semi-auto

Yep, it's another one of BattleRifle's crazy aspiring gun manufacturing ideas. This one's designed to compete with the AR-15, Mini-14, and 223 cal AKs all at once.

Action would be kind of like a cross between the SKS and BAR 1918, ie a tilt locking bolt. Configuration would be like a cross between the SKS and FAL, ie a trigger group connected to the buttstock.

Feeding device would be AR-15 magazines.

Furniture could be AR-15 surplus, but could be different as well.

Optics would be attached to receiver via an additional mount.

Far as accuracy goes, wouldn't promise more than MBR accuracy, as in 2-3", but wouldn't be satisfied with less.

Price range would probably be $300-400, lil more than an SAR but less than a Mini and generally a better.

Question

Nice idea, but realistically, the AK's, SKS's and several others are cheap due to low manufacturing and labor costs in Socialist countries. American labor costs and litigation-insurance would sky-rocket your prices. A USA-made SKS would cost $800 at least.

This is actually simpler than an SKS, and would utilize advances in technology of manufacturing. Also designed for the sporting market and able to use things not practical for standard military issue, ie screws instead of pins and machines with simple assembly but complex parts. A Saiga or SAR-3 would be cheaper, but this one would use AR-15 mags, being designed for them from the start.

This design is actually just like one I drew up a year ago, but on a larger scale and using magnum cartridges.

Not like I'm about to put one out next week, just seeing what the market would be.

I am happy with the AR-180 action. I think the bolt should lock into the chamber. The tilting bolt would simplify the bolt, but require a stonger and more precisely machined receiver.
