| Youre right, except they call it an M9. But yes it's the 92.

| Ya know......I love the Beretta 92 and 96....but I have always wondered why the US Military down-graded to a 9mm para......???????

| Senior Member | man, i hated my 1911 when in service! decreased tolerances made them real inaccurate...but the model 92's ive shot were accurate but the 9mm round is way underpowered to me but i dont know if the tollerances in the military 92's are differant than civi models?

| The M9's are the same as the civilian 92. The only difference is the prefix on the serial numbers. I was in right during the changeover from the 1911A1 to the M9. A lot of older military personell hated the change. I qualified with the .45, but had to requal 3 months later with the M9. I shot way better with the .45 than with the M9.

| The reason the 1911a1 pistols the government was still issuing up to 1985 where in such poor condition is as simple as this. The U.S. Government hadnt recievd a new .45 caliber pistol since 1944
