Thumbs down Lawmakers Want U.S. Department Of Peace

Lawmakers Want U.S. Department Of Peace

POSTED: 8:46 a.m. EDT April 10, 2003

WASHINGTON -- There's a Department of Defense, so why not a Department of Peace? SURVEY
There's a Department of Defense, so why not a Department of Peace? Four dozen Democrats have introduced a bill to create a Cabinet-level Department of Peace. Should this be created?
That's the thinking of some antiwar Democrats. Four dozen Democrats have introduced a bill to create a Cabinet-level Department of Peace.

California U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee said there's no department in the government that looks at alternatives to war. But the sponsors know they have tough fight to get their Peace Department bill passed.

Lee said it's more of a symbolic gesture.

How stupid. Then they can create a job, and spend billions of dollars on a "symbolic gesture".

Question I missed something . . .

"California U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee said there's no department in the government that looks at alternatives to war."

If that's so, then why the H___ are we paying all those "Diplomats"? Isn't that what diplomacy is for? The "State Department", if I remember correctly. And when it doesn't work, we resort to war. Duh!

Imagine what we could do with the money saved, if we cut out about 90% of the Federal and State politicians.

One of the Democratic Party's main reasons for existence is to create more and more bureaucracy...does sorta sound somewhat Orwellian, though, doesn't it?
