The reality is they are free to say whatever they want.
We are free to say or do whatever we want to also.
they at the very least insulted and offended their audience.

They espoused a far left-wing Liberal viewpoint. They didn't stop to realize that most of their fans were right-leaning Conservatives. In showing their true colors, they ruined their careers themselves. It was their right to do so. Being stupid is their right too. It just isn't smart.
