Out of Battery experience

Hey gang! Been a while since I posted here, ever since that dang Black Rifle fever kicked in late last year. But anyway, I managed to put the AR down and shoot something else a couple of weeks ago and I decided to shoot my 10-22T. It has the factory bull barrel and the laminated stock on it. Well, as far as I can tell the barrel rotated slightly making the extractor miss the slot, thus holding the blot open slightly allowing the back end of the cartridge to be blown out. I am OK, just slightly PO'd. Is this a common failure? Ruger wants me to ship the rifle back for them to look at. The only damage I can see is the magazine is trashed.

Hmmm . . . you need to check the locking wedge under the barrel. The two allen screws should be tight, but not over-torqued. If loose, the barrel could indeed have shifted.
For an expert opinion, I'd say check with the guys on RimfireCentral.com - they live and breath Ruger 10-22's.
BigMike or Chief Dave can give you some very good advice.
Off-hand this sounds like something that can be resolved without shipping the gun out. Tell 'em Bigdog sent you.

Yeap it's slightly split. Maybe I tightened it to tight?

Yep, that could do it. If you do ship the 10-22 back to Ruger, just make sure you remove any aftermarket goodies you may have installed - cause Ruger will anyway, and put stock parts on. They have a policy of not liking non-Ruger parts. Good service, just one of their foibles.
