Got a new rod and reel coming my way!

Yessir...got an Abu Garcia "Ambassadeur" (I love their spelling on that) combo coming my way UPS. Should be here on Thrusday! Can't wait to hit the lake again this weekend and work on casting with a bait-caster style reel!

Anybody experienced with these?

Plenty. Hopefully the new Ambassaduers are "wasp nest" proof. All of mine are from the 70's.

Once you become accustomed to it you will never go to anything else.I used to be a diehard spinning reel man myself, until I took a spur of the moment trip one afternoon with a co-worker.All he uses is the baitcasters. Just set the cast control a little tight at first then go from there Good luck on your next fishin' trip

Abu Garcia makes excellent rods and reels, also Johnson and Shimano...I buy Shimano when I can...but the others work just as well. :right:

I know a thing about rats nests, I grew up with my dad loving bait casting reels, i never could get the hang of the thumb action, so I used abu garcia spinners, i hear the new bait casters are rat nest proof, i use a cd-1000 s4 abu center drag, and 4 ss bearings, trip that bail and get some fish, gotta love the ugly stick

1*, Never fished either of those lakes. We have Stillhouse Hollow up this way. Good for smallmouth and White Bass in the spring. Also Belton Lake, excellent for the Hybrid White Bass, decent size Bigmouth also. If we want to go a little farther, we head up to Lake Buchanan in the heat of the summer for the surface schooling Stripers What a blast

The old casting reels took some getting used to. My dad was pretty much an expert with one. It was all he ever used for bass and speckled trout. The really fun part was casting into the wind.

Dad says the trick to the Abu Garcia Bait Casters is as follows....

When you cast, the bait will eventually hit the water and stop....but the reel wants to keep going.....so basically, stop the reel just as the bait hits the water. Gotta keep your eye on you stuff.

Now....how many rats nests am I set to work out of the line? Yeppers, gonna happen.
