Thanks To All Our Past And Present Veterans, And Our Active Duty Folks Too
lets all take a little time this weekend to remember what the day is about. cookouts, family gatherings, are fine, but lets give a thanks to all who served in uniform for their country.
is there an untended, forgotten veterans grave in town??? perhaps a little trek to honor that one, and spruce up their "eternal home" would be nice.
and one more thing get your Dad, Uncle Charley, and cousin Fred, to tell you their stories of service; and write them down or record them. if i could do one thing over it would have been to save family history, before the tellers were gone.
and one more thing , let's be careful out there!!!
I'll second Papa G's comments for sure. Most of my male relatives are navy veterans. My nephew, who is a Kansas trooper, was a helicopter mechanic in the marines, my uncle spent his time in the navy during WWII preparing in the V2 program(I believe that's the program), another uncle was a sailor on board a ship in WWII, my dad was a LtJg on board an armed guard ship during WWII, another nephew is currently in the marines and I unintentionally fell through the cracks of military service because of my age and other unintended circumstances.
May God bless each and every one of them, and all veterans of the United States of America.
yepper my father guadalcanal marine, tough as hell, i tried to follow in his boot steps, hes in the national cemetary in sante fe new mexico, i dont think i succeded, ill go see my pop sunday
went to see my dad today. and watched his three grand daughters push the red white and blue flowers in the ground, then we sat with him for a while and the girls read the markers (as best they could) and we talked about all the differant places that these risen americans fought for our freedom. (i say risen because i believe that after you strap on the uniform of this great land you can never again be "fallen". the girls asked why some of the stones in one section were very small and square? and i explained that that was the section that was for civil war vets. and finally we were driving out and the smallest (age 6) looked over at me and asked.."daddy, when you go to be with jesus will you be here with papa?" i took pride in answering "yes baby,i will."
Papa g is right on been there done that, its our fathers generation that was the best, lets say a prayer for them the generation that gave us this great land, bled died , here is mine thanks dad for your sacrifice, for holding our democracy to the hot flames of dictatorship, and paying the ultimate price for freedom, know that the heroes are in the bosom of our lord, and died to give us this land we call freedom, this land of just free people, and my family, grant them dear lord with the strength and knowledge that we live in a free country, and the freedoms we hold dear, may they hold your right hand, and may they forever bask in your sight , these rightous men who died for our country, and all of us, grant our leaders wisdom and knowledge, I pray dear lord that no young men will have to die in the service of this right and just cause, give us strength, and compassion, may the light of god shine upon all of his children amen
Thanks for the quite appropriate prayer, 7mmag6. That was a very fitting memorial.
Went to the web to check on the word atheist and found the following bit of humor:
An atheist is a man with no invisible means of support.
- John Buchan
***
An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins.
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

Thank God, I am still an atheist.
