I'd like to give two thumbs up to Clay Harvey's book:
Everything You Really Need To Know About Choosing a .45 Automatic For Self Defense . I found it to be an exhaustive study on .45 ACP pistols. No stone is left unturned in his comparison of 5 box stock pistols.
Reliability, accuracy, ergonomics, and durability... all aspects are covered in this fine book. This book is over 10 years old and may seem somewhat dated with the introduction of the sub-compact .45 pistols, (and the 1994 Crime Bill), but the study is so exhaustive it is well worth the money.
