I know a guy who got an ex-cop Crown Vic. Still has some of the markings. I think he may have driven it on his honeymoon.

I too prefer the 91 and before look. I have a friend who has the nicest 88 Grand Marquis. It treats him well and was my inspiration for the idea.

Yeah we had that discussion already, make mine a V10.

Anybody hear the crap that CNN is trying to spread about these cars being the modern equivelant of the Pinto with exploding gas tanks? I don't believe a word of it, I think they have had 15 car fires since 1982 (less then one a year) with rear end impacts. The one I did see a picture of the (police) car had been hit by a truck doing 65 mph and the rear of the car was level with the back seat, what do you expect, bad things happen in that kind of crash. Would you have rather been in a Crown Vic or a Honda in that kind of accident?

Here's a doctored image of my thoughts...
Stage 1 is the factory version.
Stage 2 is with larger tires and a mild suspension lift
Stage 3 is with a roof rack designeed for the area but not weight capacity of a pickup (ie a sheet of lumber or two)

Hmm, not a bad idea on the rack. The large Crown Vic trunk would make that a good idea. It would just be an accessory anyway.

they did this idea in the 80's with the eagle didn't fly then either suberu has done ok but if you really want a car with 4x4 action.
we took a corvet and put it up on a 4x4 jeep frame now that was a eye full with the 44" muders, hard to see off roading though.

how close are you to the southern Ny boarder anyway, I'm about 7 miles north of Warren by rt 62 the roads here aren't so rough that you need this.

I have enough friends in the boonies, a patch of land in the boonies, that the boony roads and rough driveways make it desireable. Would also like to be able to drive in fields that haven't been freshly mown by a caddy.

I'd rather get a truck too, but a Crown Vic would get better mileage, probably last longer, and cost a bit less. I'm a young college bum with not much money to spend, so I'd make the lift stuff myself. I don't need a truck just to drive places, but a little more than a regular car would be nice.

well if $$ is an issue let me tell ya customisin aint cheap, and the parts can't be found at auto zone try something like a tracker or suberu wagon like the g10 cheap, gets about 30 mpg and not much on ground clearence but I have seen one do things that no car should ever be able to do, made my truck and me just about cry when you look behind you in the deep woods where only four wheekers and horses go and there is this lil car no higher than your bumper covered in mud keeping right up with you. more than just a lil demorilizing, not to mention the crap the old lady gives you when she sees this and wants to know "why was it we had to spend $800 on those big tires to do this again."
