Air Force and the Wart hog

I recently heard that the Air Force wants to retire the wart hog. NOw I have talked with several friends that are in the army and still look at it as one of the most agile jets to support ground troops. I know the air force prefers to operate in the atmosphere rather than the low altitude that the wart hog can fly but our ground troops are the most important and the wart hog is a direct support tool for these men and women.

I think all of us need to call our representatives as well as the white house and press for the AF to retain the wart hog so our ground troops are supported.

The AF's solution is to use an F16 which is not able to take the punishment that the wart hog can.

Those jerks have tried to get rid of the A-10 for about 20 years now. It is too cheap and reliable, plus it is slow and ugly. Also it is used for supporting the army and lacks fancy electronics. Personally, I think they should be turned over to the ARMY.

I thought they were primarily used by the army. I'm with Klaus on this, give 'em to the Army.

I agree but if the air force gets it's way it will be out of the USA's inventory completely

First chance the airforce gets they will cut them up to make sure they don't come out of retirement. Did you see any close ups of those things!? Their panels where all dented and scarred, looked like my '64 PU did when I bought it. I think the airforce has already cut back on maintenance.

The Army would love to have them but are limited to helicopters for offensive purposes, the Air Force gets to have fixed wing. I would expect that the Army would be pushing to not have this happen if it is true, the A-10 is the primary close air support for most of the Army's operations especially against tanks. This becomes a little more important also after the recent war in Iraq, the Apache is good but the amount of them that got shot up was a bit of a surprise to a lot of folks.

The warthhod is one of the finest examples of a well engineered and well executed concepts in history. I bet the sight of that nose strikes fear in the hearts of tank drivers all over the world.

At Davis Monthan air base here in Tucson they have already started putting a lot of them in storage. There are more F-16's flying here now and that really sucks because they are so dang noisy! Seeing the Warthog flying overhead is part of living in Tucson. After awhile you dont even look up...you can tell the kind of plane just by the sound it makes.

Snakebite - Lewis B. Puller was a Colonel in Korea, when he went into the Chosin Reservoir area. Your Quote of Puller, was made when he was a Colonel.. In 1951 he was promoted to Brigadier General. He became a Lieutenant General before retiring in 1955.
