I know what you mean, we celibrated my younger son's first birthday yesterday complete with as many aunts, uncles, cousins and of course grandparents as we could stuff in the house (40+ people). A good time was had by all.

When my wife was pregnant with him I remember a very disturbing doctor's visit we had. She was about 4 months along the doctors performed a test where they check to see if the child has Downs Syndrome (standard battery that also test for all kinds of things). Accord to our FORMER doctor the test came back positive and she asked if we wanted to continue the pregnancy or have it terminated (clinical for kill your baby). I never said a word as I was in shock by the news (we already have a child with a very mild (currently) form of epilepsy) and I was trying to grasp the enormity of the situation we where in. My wife very quietly informed the doctor that it wasn't an option that we would continue to plan the birth.

I was not shocked by the question as I am sure some parents would never consider having a "defective child" if they could prevent it. What made the woman our "former doctor" was when my wife went back for a later visit and the doctor tried to convince her an abortion would be best for everyone involved. She would even make it appear that it was a miscarriage if my wife was going through the pregnancy just to please me. My wife walked out of the examination and found a new doctor. Our new doctor reran the test and it came back NEGATIVE! The statement "as long as he's healthy" has never ment so much to me before! I have no idea how they managed to screw the test up. My wife even mentioned it late last night how if her doctor had had her way our beautiful little boy would have been in a pail of waste somewhere.

I was at the family reunion. Pitched horseshoes for the first time. Didn't do too bad. I saw family I hadn't seen in 20 years. It was nice.

20 years??? Have you been shunned by your clan?(ha) Bet you've been just as candid with your family as you are with us guys on G&G.Com. and they just didn't tell you about all those annual family get-togethers.(ha)Just kidding Lenny.

It is good to see old faces and get re-acquainted. Don't know why we wait so long to say hello to people we've known for years and find out how we've developed different interests in many cases. Of course, some family members could (or should)skip the reunions and not embarass themselves.

I happen to be eating Saltwater Taffee as I post. I'm sure I mentioned something about my girlfriend before, as it's been 5 months (notice I've stopped posting "get a girlfriend" options on polls?) Sadly, being in PRNJ, owning guns isn't such a common practice, especially with all the stupid laws they throw at you. But she's 2nd Amendment friendly and generally has a good perspective on them. So basically she's accepting, just not accustomed, and everything that brings with it. She did go to a gun show with me. Sadly GunGeek was away sick and couldn't amuse her by making corny jokes at me. Ran into my long ago ex-interest, which may be the last I ever see of her since she ran away with an Uruk Hai.
My girlfriend managed to draw me away from at least two AKs, which I'm thankful for, since I later learned they were crap.

Believe it or not, this was the conservative area of NJ, where even the democrats are conservative. 4x4 trucks are everywhere, it's beautiful, except for the trash. I still like PA best though.

Not the city, that's for sure. I'm not sure what you'd call the general region, but not only are there conservatives, but hicks as well.
