Rem 700 Front Sight Removal & Recoil Pad

1) The image of my front sight appears in my scope. I have tried to remove the sight, but I can't get it off. I removed the screw, but can not get the sight to come loose. Any tricks or ideas?

2) My model 700 was made in 1972 and has a smooth "slippery" plastic plate on the stock. Does anyone know of a place to buy a solid rubber recoil pad I can mount on the stock in it's place (not a slip on version). Years ago I purchased a solid rubber one from Ruger and I had to sand it on a stationary belt sander to the correct size/shape in order to mount it to an M77. I can't find where Remington offers this part.

Thanks.

You need to drift out the sight blade from it's base. there's another screw under it. Drift it from lt to rt looking from the butt forward.

Pachmayer makes ready-fit pads for certain guns, and as popular as the 700 is they should have what you need. You can get a factory pad from Brownells OEM Parts list, but it would probably need fitted(sanded down).
