Retire to Kentucky?

Retirement being a few years down the road, been looking for a tax friendly/gun friendly place to go.
Weather seems tolerable, taxes low, wife likes horses.
She's been looking at it, everything sort of looks good except the price of housing.
Area would be Benton, west Ky.
Never been there, any one in this area to say if there are ranges, good hunting, what other good things happening there?

I live just south or Richmond, Kentucky. All of the nice horse country is between southern lexington and southern frankfort. Lexington really would be the best place to retire. There are many many nice farms and wooded properties out and around the Lexington area.

I'm a hillbilly in eastern KY and if your coming for the horse life, Lexington area is the place to be. Plus that is where Buds is located and Centerfire systems is located in Versailles which is also some pretty country. Heck I think the whole central KY area is beautiful. Still wouldn't trade it for my mountains though.

My mailing address is Benton - Very good hunting nearby - a few good clubs with ranges in the area - a FREE public range in the LBL (Federal recreation area with hunting) less than 25 miles away - The best bass fishing in the USA - KY does not tax my Federal Retirement -

But you are right about house prices - they are going up all the time - But smaller "out-in-the-country" homes are still available - (I have 17 ac. 5 miles from Benton).

If there are any specific questions I can answer PM me and I will do my best to get you the information.

hello folks im new to this site and fairly new to Ky.
I left Calif about 8 years ago and made my way here.
I am in central Ky not far from Bardstown. It is a great place to retire to, but I still have not gotten used to the cold winters.

Cold winters? This is the mildest winter I can remember. I think we had a week in the 20s and 30s and no snow that lasted more than a day or 2. I wore a t shirt to work for a week in January.

I live in Northern KY, about 15 miles south of Cincinnati maybe. There are a few indoor ranges and 2 or 3 gun clubs with out door rifle and trap ranges and fishing lakes and rivers within 10 miles of my house. You have the convenience of living close to the city but you can be far enough away from all the traffic and population with a 15 or 20 minute drive.

I have no intentions of ever leaving KY.

Also, very lenient gun laws here. Really, its pretty lenient in general.

I think it was Mark Twain who said something to the effect of "when the end of the world comes, I'm moving to KY. That place is 20 years behind
everybody else."

Here it is

"When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Kentucky, because everything there happens 20 years after it happens anywhere else."
