President Bush has sent 2300 marines to the coast of Liberia, the mission is undefined,(apparently to save them from themselves.)

Now Now in all fairness they are siting on that ship and Bush said they ain't going no where until the ECOWAS force is assembled and ready to lead the way. Where supposedly just going to be there till the retards in the Blue hats can come in and try not to screw things up.

PLEASE! Everyone get over 'Nam....everytime we go to war, people shake their heads and say, "Gee, its gonna be another Viet Nam"...there will be no more 'Nams. Anyway, we won the Viet Nam War, we just lost the peace.

1. Its hard to "get over" something that left a bitter taste in the mouths of millions of people (that are still alive to remember what happened). 2. There may be many more 'Nams. What, you think our government is too smart to not do that again? 3. We did not win the Vietnam war. There is no such thing as North or South Vietnam. Why? Because we pulled out...i.e. lost! |

Hey Lenny, I know that's right. Been there, done that. Many live lost, nothing gained. I fear we plan to do it over again with this bunk in liberia or, possibly, korea. But the way, we lost there too! Now, the list continues to grow. We can add Afgan and iraq, wonder what country will be next. |

We had them on their heels after the Tet offensive...the hippie creeps and intellectuals and Politicians here in the states lost the war...not the men who served there. We never lost a major skirmish over there.

I don't like the idea of going into Liberia. We have been conned into it - racist America won't help 'em - ex-slaves started the country and all that BS. What's our interest in liberia anyhow? Keep'n the peace is the U.N.'s job to screw up. Let France and Germany send troops to be killed in that place.

Stopper, another profound statement! We have nothing over ther that's worth one American life. Like all of Africa's recent history, they have been killing each other in the most brutal ways since time started! Imagine, death by machete! My God, those people, at least for the most part, are just savages. Let Mother nature do her work. The strong survive and the weak, well, they are food! After we leave they will just sharpen up thier machetes and go back to what is thier instinct!

I agree about repeating history. IF there is a good reason for US we can risk American lives. If you haven't, read Blackhawk Down. Many good men killed and wounded for what??? Jay

7mm, I was not implying that any soldier was a loser. On the contrary. I know that our men fought well. But our government lost the war. They restricted the generals by using stupid rules and not giving them the resources to move forward and complete the job. Our government pulled out; therefore, we lost the war. I have the utmost respect for every American soldier that went to Vietnam, but that doesn't mean I'm willing to re-write history. I am truly sorry if I offended you 7mm. I will not comment further on this thread. |

My Dad, a Viet-Vet himself (LRRP), and I were talking about Liberia yesterday or the day before on the phone. We were talking about Mogidishu and the comparisons. Blackhawk down was by far one of the best modern combat books I have ever read.
