| In case you missed the news Ill post the artical.....I figure L.A. should kick off the riots by morning?.....depending on how bad the crack heads need TV sets and to do some looting. Jury Deadlocked On Calif. Police Assault Charge Ex-Inglewood Officer Charged With Assault In Videotaped Arrest POSTED: 1:36 p.m. EDT July 29, 2003 UPDATED: 6:12 p.m. EDT July 29, 2003 LOS ANGELES -- A Los Angeles jury on Tuesday told a judge they are deadlocked on an assault charge against former Inglewood, Calif., police officer Jeremy Morse. Morse was charged with assault under color of authority in the arrest of Donovan Jackson, then 16, at a gas station last July. The judge polled the jury and was told that it was not close to deciding on a verdict and declared a hung jury. The jury was deadlocked 7-5 in favor of conviction in the case against Morse. When the decision was announced, someone in the courtroom yelled, "This is a joke! There's no justice for our people!" and was quickly silenced by the judge. Jackson's attorney said they would ask prosecutors to retry the case against Morse. Jackson also has civil rights lawsuits pending against the officers, the city and Los Angeles County. |

| You are right Most of the people didnt even know about Rodney King when the riots started last time. They just saw the oppurtunity to steal, and burn, and did so. Phucking Savages

| If you watch the video I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The cop slammed the kid on the trunk, no big deal, nobody said it was a daycare. Then the cop punched the kid, simple assault, the guy has been fired and I don't think this is even his trial. I think this is the trial for the cops that saw him do it, I guess being a witness to a crime is a cime now.

| I kinda think Kalifornia has the right idea. If you want an inner run-down part of the city rebuilt just cause a sensational trial that will result in riots and the idiots will do the job for city government. It saves tax payer money fighting the eviction of the slum lords and the cost of men and equipment to tear down the run down buildings and fire traps. I was detailed to inner LA after the Rodney King trial. It was NOT a pretty sight. You just knew every thug that had a gun was waiting to get his gun sights on your head. I know of one detail unit that had a video camera in their squad (as did many) and while he was filming looting a round went through the lens. Luckily the shot was at an angle and all he got was a minor glass cut under the front lip of his helmet. To top that off LA and the state refused to swear us in (actually they couldn't due to state laws) so we had no jurisdiction and arrest powers. We were just front line observers and targets. Actually, according to the news here the inner city minorities are screaming for a re-trial on this current case. I believe they are waiting for the outcome of that before we see anything on this one.

| My understanding was that the reason the cop punched the kid was because the kid allegedly grabbed the cop by the knuts. The cop took it personal like and ended the situation fast. Maybe the story has changed but it sounded legit to me. Of course the camera didn't see it. Maybe cops should carry belt buckle cam's. Maybe it's just me or the way I was raised, but I really believe that cops are friends and there to help. I also believe that people are not going to react well to you if you mouth off and threaten them. A simple yes sir/ no sir can go a long way in most situations. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but i just don't understand why parents and society don't teach these values anymore. So far I've succeeded with my kids, we'll see how they turn out. Off the soap box. |

| I agree with you, Dallas. It all starts with respect. But 'down there' there is NO repsect....not even for themselves let alone where the respect should be given. It all starts with parents like you and me (and the other good folks in here). But when you have parents that are doing life in Folsom on the installment plan, or strung out on drugs....dealing those drugs, turning tricks to get their fix, spending a lifetime ripping off honest folks' property, etc. you have the same environment you see in inner LA. Unfortunately for folks like us the courts and laws are taking our ability to instill respect in our children and our demand and expectation for discipline. As far as this kid in LA.....even IF it was clearly shown he grabbed the cops havos..... the public would then say the cop said something that provoked the incident. It's a no win situation when you are dealing with a mob mentality. And that's what it is...that's what they are. I think it's high time the National Police Officers' Union and policemen, themselves, step forward and loudly claim they won't take this inner city crucification attitude any longer. If it's not LA it's Detroit. If it's not Detroit it's Philadelphia. If it's not Philidelphia it's Memphis. If it's not Memphis it's Cincinnatti, etc., etc., etc. It's time to draw a line and call the inner city punks out on this type of voiced extortion....."Convict them or we riot" ideas. Simply tell them that this is our justice system and if you don't like it, "Go ahead and riot. THIS time we'll deal with it on OUR terms. Bring it on. Bring it on."

| Well, now that the Kalifornia gummint has effectivly disarmed the people and we have a good old fashioned riot,I wonder if the law will run off again and leave the people to their own defense...probably.

| Now, now, now Doglips you're suppose to set a "good" example. Instead of doing a little B/E you should just be carrying the stuff for others less well adjustment and more deprived (or is that depraved) than you. |

| Senior Member | Thats why I love Kansas - who the "H" is gonna riot here? and what are they gonna riot for? Heck, it's too freak'n hot to riot here in summer and too cold too riot in the winter. The story I heard was that the kid grabbed the officers "boys" and obviously like any man, he didn't take too kindly to it and smashed the kid.

| Yeah, nothing like 100 degree heat with 90% humidity to take the fight out of somebody. I would actually kind of like to see the Topeka police turn the firehose on some rioters when its 20 below 0 some time. Besides that there are just to many firearms in Kansas, watching your buddy getting his face blown off by a 12 ga as he tries to nab a TV will cool your jets real quick too.
