From a 43 yr old man let me tell ya something about a klashanakov (sp) action in your hands somehow makes stupid a quick trip , if you dont get to shoot it much . I know times I catch myself with the stupid button on . Like the time I was bump firing off my back deck and shot 3 holes in the chain link fence rail . Stupid yes but as i said sometimes stupid is a short trip .

Ummm wow? At first I thought he was young in the first few lines but he is 19. Regardless he should of known better but if it was a brand new shooter like 8 or so I'd think it would be a short thought process. Hell he is 19 it probably still is. Oh well man get better and enjoy your little chunk of shrapnel.

Bring him to this site and let him read the comments.....
He needs no hickory stick nor does he need to sell his guns. He will remember this accident and thank God that it was from what i read not a real bad injury.
I sure hope your hand is taken care of Monday and both you and your son now enjoy the next range shoot with confidence and the utmost safety..

It sure could have been a lot worse.......

Seems to me that is worth a lot of car washes and lawn cuttings, oil changes, and whatever chores you won't be able to do with your hand wrapped up.

^Yup,sounds like a fair deal.
Went through a similar thing a few years ago,we were using an old table saw blade as a target for plinking and I shot it with my Marlin 60 only to have the round come straight back and hit my buddy in the leg.
No major damage but we learned real quick.

My boys don't always think what may happen if they shoot stuff to close at times either. If they get a goofy idea I'm there to remind them. As we know some of that stuff would be fine for 99 times, then the next you get hit with a fragment.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

glad it was not as worse as it could have been. i think a police report is required in any shooting injury regardless of reason.

i'll take your son's guns, i will make sure they are kept out of reach.

Glad that piece of shrapnel didn't go somewhere else even worse. Hopefully your son learned his lesson and your hand recovers fully.

Sorry to he you were injured over ignorance, hope everything goes well for your surgery. But I'd almost bet money you called him or said things that aren't in the book.

Accidents happen. This was a foolish one though. None of us are perfect, at least I'm not, and we learn as we go. If your son has a haphazzard attitude about it, you might presesnt him the medical bills if he pays them or not. I hope the Surgery goes well tomorrow in any case.

Sounds like he doesn't need any more punishment than he's considering for himself. It doesn't take much imagination to think up a more dire outcome from a moment of carelessness.

I'd bet he'd go to almost any length to make it up to you.

Hope all goes with your surgery. A good hand surgeon will fix you up well. I've assisted a couple of really talented ones. It's amazing what they can do. Please let us know how it goes.

All the best,

Dave

There is a wonderful organization for your son that teaches gun safety, teamwork, and discipline. It provides free food, housing, clothing, and utilities. A tour with the U.S. Army does a body good.

All's well that ends well. It sounds to me like he learned the hard lesson, and now it's time to go forward. Physical pain can be dealt with, but the mental pain he's dealing with will last a long time! I'd bet he becomes a safer shooter, with superior muzzle awareness, now that he's experienced the result of carelessness. Hope your hand heals well!

Ok, I was just wondering. Hopefully they are able to remove the shard and repair all the damage and make your hand like new again
