One thing that I understand less and less as time goes on Jet Girl is the mind boggling number of gun owners who do not understand that the reason that they really can't shoot is because they persist in buying magnums and that they literally hate magnum level recoil.
I will add this, to the mix too.
It might not sit well with some folks. (but it is my HONEST opinion)
I have a disdain, for some new shooters.
You may have noticed it in some of my posts.
Some really don't have a clue, about the "basics" of shooting.
They buy their first firearm, because of the "cool" factor.
As they are influenced by video games, zombies, & movies.
Let it be a poodle shooter, Mil surplus ammo, or a high capacity plastic hand gun. With all the fancy tactical additions.
While there is nothing wrong with this. (it is their $)
Yet they MISS out, on the basics of shooting.
I was chatting with someone who logged in chat the other day.
He logged in and asked where he could buy a silencer & drum magazines.
I asked him what he was planning to use them for.
He said for SHTF, blowing stuff up, & zombies.
I told him I would rather use a 12ga or Lever gun.
He said those were outdated, and ineffective, and not accurate.
And not made for putting on the "important accessories".
I asked him if he ever shot a lever or bolt action, shot open sight competition, or went hunting.
He said Hell No!
And admitted that he had NEVER shot a bolt or lever hunting rifle, nor used open sights. He has only shot AR or AK platform rifles with high tech.optics.
When I mentioned the he needed to learn to shoot w/o the fancy stuff.
He logged out. Go figure...
Others I have talked to, have never fired a revolver.

I've heard it told that lasers have deescalated bad or confused situations over at road checkpoints over seas where the sight of firearms is common, maybe even having them pointed at you is common, but the little light you notice your friend looking at is not so common, then it click's it isn't for the user to know where his bullet will hit but so that YOU will know where it will hit.
Same thing was said for riots both here and there and the like. I already know where my round is landing, now you know and if you don't like it act right sorta dealie methinks because if, heaven forbid, I do ever have to break leather it's past the point of "do I have to use it" and more "unless instant compliance is seen use it"
Love lasers and they have their place, should not be a crutch but eyup they do have an effect on both shooter and target. Just another tool in the box, maybe one that shouldn't be introduced to a new shooter until after they have a good handle on the fundamentals of marksmanship.

Dang, I missed that guy. Coulda been fun if'n he had any sense of humor.
I wonder what gun forum/chat he is gracing with his presence now.
A laser sight on a scatter gun. Now THAT would be the berries.
tom
There is a laser that replaces the magazine cap available for the Remington 870. I'm waiting for the same company to come out with one for the Mossberg 500. I figure that between the deterrence value and the point of impact indication, it would be worth it.

I figger a shot gun laser site should have multiple dots, kinda mimicking the shot pattern.............
I have a couple of pistols I would love to put a laser on, but no one makes either a guide rod laser or laser grips compatible with them. I'm thinking especially of the CZ-82 and the Yugo Tokarev here.
I suppose I will just have to keep on practicing how to line up the sights correctly on target.
My Sig 229 has tritium night sights. I can use those in the dark. My Smith 640 does not. I have a Crimson Trace grip on it for night purposes.
Lasers are great for fast target acquisition in low light. I don't think it would work well on a scatter gun; would rather just have a plain light.
**edit** or what Tom said:laughing:
Ha!
Can you imagine what some evil-intending person would think upon discovering not just one, but a dozen laser dots illuminating his center mass area as he is traversing his intended victims yard?
A laser is just as effective as cycling the action of a scatter gun, but only if said weapon is fully loaded, safety off, and ready to follow up in a split second.
I like former Force Recon Marine, Defense Contractor, International Firearms/Tactics Trainer Travis Haley's quote.

Posturing, trying to look cool so that when friends come over they can take out their .357/.44 Magnum and show it off. That would be my $0.02 on that topic.

thats probably why so many gangsta thugs have desert eagles.

The laser on the local swat teams rifles didn't stop me from tearing them a new one when we did force on force scenarios in the base shoot house. Lasers are toys that provide a false sense of security. The military originally put lasers on the squad leaders rifles to point out targets to the other men in his unit.
