... and there ya have it... I don't own one firearm that isn't worth more now than when I bought it. Besides, I'm retired, and my gun money comes from the firearms classes I teach. If I have the money for a firearm that I want, I'll have it.

Mine will be left to my son (and any future children) or my grandchildren. Any that they don't want they can sell off.

Thumbs up

My wife and I are gonna have our will revised ASAP. One clause I'm probably going make sure is included has to do with willing all my guns to my grandson, who is 10 y.o. now.

My two SIL's both have several guns, of course never enough. My grandson and I have a close relationship and we've already shot targets together including a .22 Henry which I've already given him, and a .223 center bore rifle. He's already got the gun and hunting bug. He loves to go deer hunting with us as an observer even though he hasn't taken the required "hunter safety" course which would qualify him to carry a gun during our hunts. Hopefully his dad will schedule that course for him before next deer season.

So...my G.S. is gonna be the heir to my guns.

My "family guns" (a Winchester 100 in .308 and a Winchester 94 30-30) will stay in the family and likely go to my step-daughter unless the wife and I are blessed with our own, which one will go to one and the other will go with the other.

My other guns that I have acquired on my own, my wife can do with what she wants. If she needs money, she can sell them, or if my step daughter wants them to make them family guns to pass down, that is fine too.

I won't care after I'm gone...

Jerry...you son will come around eventually. Hang in there. Some just take a bit longer than others to get wise to life.

sadly i have 4 girls and none of them give a shat about them. 1 sil cannot figure out how to reload a stapler!!! 'tis true. i told my wife when i die, to auction off all my guns, ammo and other stuff. i have been to a couple of estate auctions around here and the bidding is unbelievable. they pay double and triple what the guns are worth. my kids would go to the local pawnshop and get squats for them all.

Rather than hiding them from my wife we finally came up with a plan. Every time I buy a gun I have to buy her one. No problem since I can shoot those also.

The only problem is getting to be the cost. I built her a tricked out pink camo Ar for her birthday. $1700.00. She does like it because it is pink and their is no one like it.

Yes, which is why my wife know exactly what I pay for my firearms. Whether it is an $80 surplus rifle or a 5 grand title II, she needs to know that.

I know a few guys who built their collection "$100 at a time." I am not one of them.

I am, however, mildly concerned that she will sell my gear if she ever gets mad at me. That is a real possibility...

Well, if everything goes like everything else. The whole family will strip my immediate family of everything. That's how everything works in my family. They'll just walk in and pretend they are helpin with stuff and when your not lookin take something. Or say that the kids are not old enough for this or that and say they will hold onto them for ya. Like someone once said, you can pick your friends but you can't pick family. I've already warned my wife.

Smile Disposing

I am solving that problem right now. I am 70, so according to the actuary tables, I have 5 yrs and 9 months to go. So,, being almost an orphan, and having one son that is not interested in anything of mine, I started disposing of stuff. Last month 21 guns, a Civil War sabre, and 2 M1916 camoflauge German trench helmets went. The guns I gave to a young kid down in Texas, and the other stuff went on an internet auction (no, not Ebay, although I don't have anything against them.) This month, more bayonets, a Civil War sword bayonet, and a WW1 German pickelhaube spike helmet will go out on the auction. Boxes of ammunition and reloading gear also went down to the young man in Texas.

Better overseeing the disposal this way than having it get thrown into a dumpster after I tip over. I am culling the herd down to the practical stuff...no more 7mm, 8mm, 7.65, 7.62-54, etc. Will keep a few M1s, a carbine, and a few 1903s. The rest of it I wearied of and lost interest in. Will also hold onto a few Lugers, .45s, .38s, etc.

I feel better already, dumping that stuff.

Determine who you want to have what in a will. Who cares about the rest? I'd leave some ideas to values on what isn't assigned though!

My wife doesn't know how much my guns are worth. I told her to have a friend of mine from the club help her sell it. He'll make sure she gets a good price for them. She once said she wouldn't know what to do with all my stuff, tools, guns, books, reloading gaer, etc. if I died before her. I told her I would try not to let that happen..... she kicked me!!LOL!!

What do you care after your dead? I guess you could have your funeral set up like the Egyptians and have your arsenal set up for the afterlife.

uh, maybe we don't want our heir cheated out of the value they deserve. We're making light of the subject, but it is a serious one, witness those that have made arrangements for proper and valued disposition. That's why I have life insurance too.
