Kelly Clarkson's Performance of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl
How many times do I have to say this?
NATIONAL ANTHEMS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO "INTERPRETATION" BY VOCALISTS!
Someone take Kelly Clarkson out behind the stadium and yank her vocal cords out, please. Steven Tyler was bad enough at the AFC Championship game, but at least he was on tempo. Kelly Clarkson had a drum line behind her and still couldn't stay on beat.
NFL, in the name of all that's holy, PLEASE do away with the vocal "interpretations" of the National Anthem and replace them with a precision field band!
I disagree. I think the drums are what caused an issue in hearing her beautiful voice. She did a complete and great job with her style of singing. She did a great job with it.
Let's get Seal Team VI out there with their weapons trained at the singers head, and see how well they do! What's next? A rendition of the National Anthem in rap?
After she sang the first line, I muted the tv, as I knew it wasn't going to be the National Anthem that I used to sing. I wonder whose anthem that was???. Yep, I'm a redneck, and I believe people who sing the National Anthem wrong should be fined, and banned forever from singing it at any venue.
I missed the live rendition but saw the TuberculosisTube replay and after seeing past performances, I don't see where the gripe is. There's just no pleasing some people. I'd call this progress....as far as national anthems go.
The half time show will yet again be wrought with controversy. I'm pretty sure that I saw "the finger".

From the reaction you guys are giving, bitching about the National Anthem performance has become as much a part of the Super Bowl as the performance itself, she did a good job from what I can hear.

I have a feeling Clarkson did a far better job than you would have.
My only comment is that I very much prefer to hear it the way it was written and not the way it is interpreted. There is a certain reverence I feel when it's sung the way it was written. Doesn't matter who sings it.
What irks me is most of the players look bewildered as the National Anthem is being sung. I would be willing to bet that none of them could tell you who wrote it and what battle it originally was from.
One thing good about the game today,,, I had the range pretty much to myself.
