My brothers are currently relocating to North Dakota around Willis or Wilson, or something like that. They are following the oil boom up there. They heard there is lots of warehouse jobs in that area. They claim that they are paying people 14 bucks an hour just to flip burgers. Can't really say that its true, just what they heard. So they packed their bags, tents, and etc. and off they went. Just in case your willing to relocate.
I sincerely thank you for the kind words.
A lot of people are going up there but word of caution! THERE IS NOWHERE TO LIVE. People are turning right around and coming back to Minneapolis when they head up to the Oil fields. They will not hire you if you don't have anywhere to live is the other thing I am hearing. So living out of your truck, or van isn't really an option, or so I am told. I really wouldn't envy anyone being in ND for any wage. The Minnesota winters are brutal most years, ND is worse. I am willing to relocate, but I already have plans to move even further west. Milder winters, constitutional carry, person to person sales, (all our sales in MN are FFL) and an offer of room and board in exchange for being a hired hand are hard to beat. Plus, I can also work a part time job for ammo funds. My roommate already makes over $50k per year, and Google is making him an offer for at least double to relocate to The Dalles Oregon. He is buying between 40 and 80 acres less than 10 miles outside of town and we are going to build it nearly from the ground up. Hopefully I can at least find some work here before I move so I can have a bit of spending cash on the move out there.
Been fighting fires for the last 16 1/2 years. Still love my job and wouldn't trade it but I hate the politics that go with it. I've been working with a bad attitude for the last 2 years because of the politics. The 1st pic is me getting beat up at a 5 alarm fire and the 2nd is from a diaster drill at the entrance to the lincoln tunnel (I have my back to the camera sitting on the truck).
It's unfortunate politics have to ruin a great way to make a living. Thanks for putting up with it, and getting on with the job anyway. Even though I don't live anywhere near NJ I still appreciate the work you do.
I'm retired because of disability so I'm on SSDI. Too much heavy lifting in my past jobs. I thought it was macho but it turned out that machoism is for the birds. I retired in 2000 at age 50.
They took tents, and are going to camp at this makeshift camp site this guy is opening up, and has several mailboxes so they can give an address.
It's good they planned ahead. I have known more than one guy including a bricklayer with over 25 years experience that turned right around and came back. He heard there were bricking jobs up there paying good money and couldn't find as much as a broom closet to sleep standing up in.
Seriously, I am a semi retired industrial photographer. Create brochures for railroads, NASA, Insurance companies and so forth.
One of my late, great, favorite uncles was a self trained photographer/photo-lithographer. He had a camera store and photo finishing business for awhile. Some of his freelance work even found its way into publications such as Arizona Highways. He also spent a number of years creating print advertising for Dillard's and also had an extensive newspaper background. An avid gardener, virtuoso chef/chuck wagon cook, and he would just find a slab of wood and make a dulcimer or a balialiaka and then teach himself to play it. He placed very little personal value on all those things so when he passed away all that stuff had been given to friends, family, etc and there wasn't much for anyone to sort thru or fight over. And he smoked Chesterfield cigarettes. Ahhhh, Uncle Bill.
For the past 35 + years I have been an Electronics Technician. I have worked in 5 different Texas cities then I moved to New Mexico. For the past 56 months I have worked for NRAO. I started working at the VLA 17 months ago. A great job working with some really good people.
I have been a ham for over 28 years.
