Thumbs up

I tell folks I am the last of a rare breed - a 'digital paleontologist' keeping the old Mainframe dinosaur grinding along. I made a niche for myself, based upon the changing times...... I developed a methodolgy of being able to copy old tape data to DVD, when there ain't no direct way to get there from here. As the old applications get updated to new platforms, the historical data has to remain accessible. Also am the only programmer left who knows the old internal systems jobs - they know if they lose me, the S hits the rotating oscillator about a month down the road....... and I will NOT train my replacement til I'm a short timer!
With the current economy, rewriting the old batch jobs from COBOL to a server system ain't gonna happen til I'm about out the door. No money, no personnel, no real need.

I make it so you don't have to wipe with plastic..

I repair paper machines.. I specialize in wet end equipment (where the process starts and it's 1-3% pulp, the rest water) on the Headbox (left side of this photo)

Well Paper, since most women get paranoid when they are down to only 12 rolls of toilet tissue, you are probably high on their list of favorite people sir....

I haven't been gainfully employed since 1988, when I retired after 23 years of service as a paratrooper. Now I'm on SS Disability, VA Disability (100%) and Military retired. Since they decided that drawing VA Disability and Military Retired Pay was not really double dipping, I've been able to pay the mortgage and eat.

I work for the Feds.... well FedEx. I have an associates degree in electronics, but I call it a $20,000 piece of toilet paper. However, the job I have pays the bills, and meet some interesting people, and animals. As long as people don't want to go to the store that is 5 miles down the road from them, I have job security.

I can't load a pic from my phone, but a dog gave me a kiss on my ear, with his teeth. Split the lobe, but some rubbing alcohol and super glue fixed me right up. No need to call the cops or suing the home owner because the dog was instinctually protecting an infant.

I feel I am near the last of a dying breed of hard working people. By no means am I calling anyone lazy, I just see the next generation coming up that have no work ethic.

Sorry for the side track. I fully appreciate everyone who has served our country. I have confidence in those who are looking. Check out local grocery stores for 3rd shift stocking, I did that until something else opened up. I've even worked for Jimmy Johns as a delivery driver with a gas guzzling expedition, but still made money to pay rent. The only job that is below you, is the one cleaning whale crap off the ocean floor, all other jobs are opportunities to get a new start.

After I got out of the Marine Corps, I discovered there wasn't much need for people killing skills in the outside world.

I went to work for a home builder for about 8 years, and learned a lot. Unfortunately the Bush 41 recession brought an end to that line of work.

I went back to school, and I'm currently a Critical Care RN. I find people saving skills are in high demand, and recession resistant.

And actually, I don't make it so you don't have to use plastic..

I make it so the sheet is perfect.. Tissue imperfections are bad news.. Certain things like holes can happen, and I don't want to tell you about holes in tissue..
