When contemplating freakish conversions, I thought it sucked that extending the barrel wouldn't extend the site radius. Then I thought what if you put a site on the front of the barrel of a tilting barrel auto pistol, like a 1911? Then you could just take off the front site from the slide.
Good idea, bad idea? Any pistols like this out there?

Several versions of pistols used for target shooting have the barrel-mounted front sights - Beretta, Walther and a Russian target pistol whose name escapes me, all based on standard small service pistols. Usually these are .22 rimfires but no reason you couldn't do it with a Wondernine or a .45.
Reason I ask is cause thye barrel does tilt, but I figure duh, it goes back to the same place and fires in line with the slide, and taking a closer look at the Browning Hi Power target model, it appears to have a barrel mounted front site. I'm thinkin of a 1911 freakish conversion with an arbitrarily long barrel.
