The back may be back

For those of you who know of my love for the Cabin, it won't surprise you that on a beautiful Sunday afternoon I went out to clean up some of the tops the loggers had left near the road leading in. I had planned on just doing small stuff, cutting with a buck saw when I had to and piling up the limbs into brush piles for the bunnies and other small game. But soon I got into bigger firewood and pulled out the old Homelite. I hurt my back last August (herniated disc) and have been slowly nursing and PT'ing it back to health. Started slowly but ended up cutting and piling large stuff for nearly two hours. Today my back felt better than it has in months, so I'm thinking I've been taking it TOO easy. Felt really good to run the saw again, as I used to do it a lot. Post wasn't really about my medical condition but more about what a great time I had being at the Cabin, outside and getting some good hard exercise. Had forgotten how good it felt after 9 months of taking it real easy. And yes, it's a big relief knowing the back is apparently healed up. Now, just don't do something stupid....!

I have not been too active since I retired but I find that when I do a lot of work I feel a lot better. Glad to hear that you are doing well and enjoying your time outdoors.

Last fall, on a trip to visit the cousin in Freeland, I herniated one of my disc's. It happened because I didn't get out and stretch during the short trip. After visiting my dr twice, I had to go to a dentist appointment. They put me on the chair and inverted me, head below the feet. Would you believe that took care of the problem?? I had a appointment with a neuro-surgeon the next day and I told him what had happened. He said it probably helped quite a bit.

I will try to remember that just in case I get the same problem. Glad it worked out for you.

Glad to hear you're free of the pain. I got out yesterday and started lopping off small branches up to six feet off the trees close to the house, so we can walk in the woods without getting poked in the eye. I guess I overdid it, because CGO came out later and asked me if I wanted her to go fetch my cane. I said no, but later I wished I'd have had her bring it to me. This morning I'm really feeling it, but maybe a little walking will ease it off some. It sounds like you got enough wood to get you through the next deer season! There's another job I need to get on, taking the damaged trees down, and getting them cut up for winter!

A couple years ago I bought an Inversion table. The one's chiropractors hate. Because they WORK. Best 100 bocks I ever spent. 5 min a day = great back

Yep, I have two friends who swear by them. Part of my rehab has been spent on a stretcher table - I call it "the Rack" - it's like something out of the Spanish Inquisition, except it's not painful, just temporarily uncomfortable.A month of that really did help but then two months of PT did too. Today I went back to the Cabin and cut and hauled brush for 4 1/2 hours. Tomorrow we'll find out if my home remedy is working!
