It is always sort of strange to realize these people were very multi-talented
actors who landed roles on a long running television show.
It is even more strange to realize Gunsmoke was really Japanese kabuki theater. Many plays in which many things happen but the central characters always retain their roles. I mean, what would have happened had Miss Kitty decided to open up a bank? Suppose Doc decided to go into the dry goods business? Suppose Matt decided to become a cattle buyer and shipper?
Guess what - no gunsmoke!!!!
I believe Ken Curtis was an original member of the Sons of the Pioneers, but I won't swear to it
I don't know if he was an original member or not, but I do know he was a member for sure.My dad served with one of the original members of the SOP while in Burma during the Second World War.
There was a lot of talent wandering around Hollywood back then. I think ken Curtis was in a couple of John Wayne's cavalry, where there was always a scene or two with soldiers serenading the ladies. Those fellers could SING, not like the crap they call music now days. And if anyone spots any talent in today's Hollyweird, please let me know!
Yep, Ken Curtis was a member of the Sons Of The Pioneers. We were talking about all around talent and the Rat Pack came up. Those guys could do it all. Sure miss 'em.

Back in 'the day', the stars began their careers in the depression era or WWII. They had to be really well rounded, and be able to do multiple things to make a buck. I miss those old stars...... so many have left us. But we still can enjoy their movies and songs - even if through Youtube!
Speaking of Ken Curtiss, anyone remember him in the action series "Ripcord"? He and a buddy were professional parachutists travelling the country, rescuing folks and helping the LEO. Kinda like Seahunt but with parachutes instead of diving!
[QUOTE=99dragon99;1592936]Jim Nabors still send chills through my spine. He has such an amazing voice, it's hard to imagine that he got a such dopey roll.

My wife's favorite part of the Indy 500 is Jim Nabors singing "Back Home Again In Indiana". After that she doesn't watch much of the race.

Now THAT is a deep down memory! I used to watch Sky King in the morning, and Sea Hunt, Ripcord, and Whirlybirds in the early afternoon when I was very little and they were in reruns. One of the local station bought a syndication package, I guess.

I believe one of them was She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
