So, the Mrs and I sit outside nightly, enjoying the evening air and watching traffic go by. Our neighbor has a white cat that we see nightly as well, watching it sit on the front porch across the street. Every time a dog happens by, this cat comes off the porch and attacks the dogs. After a brief fight, the dogs choose to flee and the cat returns to the porch.
One night, as we are sitting outside, we hear an awful racket coming from the neighbors back yard. Suddenly, their white cat comes out on a full bore run, chased by two bluejays. The cat slides underneath our pickup truck as the bluejays land on the overhead power line.
Then, a bluejay swoops down, lands on the driveway and walks underneath our pickup, going after the cat once more. Out comes the cat and runs for the cover of the front porch. That was hilarious.
It seems our animals have begun to act out of normal behaviour. That, and it's a slow Saturday night.

Go Bluejays. Rah Rah sisboombah. LOL. One of my neighbors has a bunch of cats that are not fed, not watered, look like they have the mange, I know they're sick. Well they come into my my yard and crap in my garden. They try sneakin up and drinkin my GF's dogs water, usually at night and cause them to bark. It's gettin to the point where I am ready to shoot them. Not to mention stalking the bird feeder I have in the back. So anytime a Bluejay or Mocking Bird go's after a cat, good for the bird. And they stalk the groundhogs that are on the property behind mine. But if the groundhog population rises by 5 or so more I may have shoot a couple of them to keep them from repopulating the neighborhood. I like watchin the groundhogs. Just don't want em under my house.
Blue jays are a hoot. When we lived in Tennessee, they'd come up to our table, in the back yard, and beg for a peanut. Wanda and I would buy a big bag of the salted Planters peanuts, still in the shell, and those birds would swoop down and land a foot or two away. I'd toss a peanut to one and it would grab the peanut and fly off.

BroBob, That's cool is'nt it? I did that when I lived in Morro Bay Calif. I would put a pile on the upstairs banister and one would fly down and take one and come back for another. One day I got luck and held one in my fingers and he came down and got it. The one and only time that ever happened. Hey come to think of it I got a bag of peanuts in the cabnet. See what ya did, ya got me thinkin.

I have a robin that made a nest 1 flight of stairs down from my apartment. That hussy would dive bomb me every time I was coming and going. For some reason she abandoned her nest. Friday I walked out the door to go to work and all of a sudden there is a bird in my hair flapping its wings. That crazy bird is building another nest on the light just outside my door. It's too bad she doesn't realize I am probably the only person who wouldn't harm her or take down her nest.
All I will say is,,,cats make good target practice. Yup I said it.
My wife has a cat and I tolerate it cause it stays outside and earns
it's keep, out side of that ,,,,,boom.
Where I grew up, the bluejays were the scouts of the neighborhood bird population. If you went into the back yard, say to scatter stale bread for the birds, every bird would clear out. They would stay gone until the bluejays came back into the yard, checked things out, and called the all-clear. Even the squirrels wouldn't come back until the jays said it was okay.

BW at the corner of my garden there is a walnut tree. Just about 3 days ago I was sittin on my thinkin log and looked in the tree across the way and saw that there is a Robins nest in the walnut tree. I am always out there under the tree. The Robins squak and go on when I am there. I just talk to them. I tell them that I am not going to hurt them. They hav'nt swooped down on me yet. Try talkin to the Robin. Open your front window and tell her you're not going to hurt her. Just might work. If it don't, duck and cover when you leave.

I did. I told her if she quit swooping me I'd go to the bait store and buy her some of those big Canadian Night Crawlers. I think she called me a name.

Well buy em anyway. Then she will be a big fat and sassy Robin LOL Remember she is protecting a family. And just think when the little ones start to learn to fly. Robins tend to leave the nest before they have all thier feathers. So when that happens keep the cats away and watch where you step. And buy the night crawlers anyway.

I did wildlife rehab. Most of the birds we got in was from people thinking they were orphaned. Most songbirds will be on the ground a week or so before they are able to fly. The parents feed them until then. To rehab a bird you have to feed them every 10 minutes from daylight to dark. They pretty much shut down at night. You have to carry them around with you if you have errands to run. They are a lot of work.

The bluejay family we had in Cali kept the stray cats out of our yard, and out of the flower beds. It really PO'D my wife when she'd get a handful of cat poop when she was working in the flowers, so it was a good thing to have those blue devils in the tree! I prefer to have CGO in a GOOD mood, and the bluejays were a great help! LOL!
