At my shooting club we were complaining about how stupid our UK gun laws are (quite a common occurrence) but then we moved on to targets. We used to shoot on the military figure 11 target but some years back our shooting organisations decided in looked bad if we were seen to be shooting on figure targets and so they had to be changed, see the examples below. I was just wondering if you have to deal with anything similar on your side of the pond?
Figure 11
Yes, there are lots of ranges that only allow the standard round targets these days. If you hang a figure target at some of them, you get ejected for being politically incorrect. But here on my range, we revel in being incorrect! LOL! I won't mention what we shoot at, but it's lots of fun!

Good for you Seabeescotty Sir, it's good to know there's still some sense in the world.
I learned in the service to know my enemies! If you can pick them out of the crowd, you're way ahead in the game! And I think we all know who our enemies are, here on G&G. But the PC bunch in power would rather we be kept in the dark, and made easy targets for those who hate us and would enslave us to their way of life. NOT on MY watch!
Penguin, on this side of the pond it's a range-by-range thing. At my range, the club officers don't care what paper targets you shoot at. Most of us use standard bullseye targets, but some members, particularly the local sheriff's deputies, train using standard law enforcement type targets, not the charging soldier or armed bad buy targets. As the county pays for them, I guess they don't mind.
Also I’ve shot competitively for many years and you often had to get your firearm checked before the competition to ensure it complied with the rules. When I started it was always called “weapons control” but somewhere along the line it got changed to “equipment control”. No doubt that greatly improved public safety.
But there are ways around this. We also have a sniper competition called the “McQueen” and the target is affectionately known as the “Hun’s Head”. It used to be an actual image of a head but now it is a strange pentagon shape with a rectangular slot.
But when viewed at distance (normally 300yds) and in the right context it still works as I hope you can see from the pictures below.
Pretty much the same here in the east, only we don't have as much room.
Targets are anything you want. The only reservations are that it is best not to deliberately offend anyone; this is because the majority do not hunt or shoot but all land is owned by someone. We need to remain in the good graces of the landowners if we want to keep on shooting. (Too many jackasses have ruined it for all of us)
So while I might have enjoyed shooting a photo of my ex-wife some years ago, I would be better off shooting photos of Bin Laden.
I went to a gun show on Saturday and bought some "Shoot N C" stickers from a vendor selling targets.
He had a long table full of all sorts of geometric targets with some "form" targets sprinkled in (zombies, masked bad guy, angry Andy Taylor, etc.) Signs all over the table said "TARGETS" with the prices on the signs.
Then off to the side, he had a very small table with one stack of ...well, the sign said "non-framed PICTURES; 50¢" ...because he'd had a less-than-cordial run in with some suits wearing shades, if you know what I mean.
He decided to keep things separated and very "PC" at his show tables.

I don't know of any ranges in my area of PA that outlaw the use of human based paper targets. Not saying their not out there, but I haven't heard anyone suggesting otherwise.
I usually shoot at the Sportsman's Range on a military base. Bad guy targets of one sort or another are the norm, rather than the exception. While civilians are welcome ($7 a day) most shooters are ex- military or active duty ($5 a day). You get a target frame with a standard bullseye target that you can staple or tape anything you want over.
