high tech bullets....

have yall heard of the bullets called "superpenetrators" they use them for big game hunting.they utilize a technology called "super cavitation". i was reading a bit about em on some african hunting site last nite. the bullets are solid bronze and have a flat stell disk that over hangs a bit beyond the edge of the bullet. the theory is that the edge of the disk creates a gas bubble around the bullet so the bullet doesnt contact the flesh so it is uneffected by the differant pressures / forces the flesh would put on it.in a sense it just travels in the bubble. they tested them by firing thru water containers and after three containers the plain bullets deflected seriously off the intended point of impact and after 5 i think it was, they changed directions all together.but the bullets that had this "super cavitation" disk went thru like 18 containers before it deflected (if i remember right) it was a great article!...wish i could remember what site it was? CRAP!

Flat pointed solids are not a new idea. The concept is interesting, but my question is that since the bullet is penitrating through a solid/liquid mass. Where does the "gas" come from to form the "gas bubble"?

I think the Barnes Super Solid or the Trophy Bonded Dead Tough will work just as well for less money.

yeah great articles! ty! and good question dave! im guessing the gas would come from the liquid in the body and also the air dragged in by the bullet...kinda like the bubbles that surround a rock when its thrown in water. sounds logical.

Sounds like cavitation, where low pressure (and possibly a little heat) causes water to flash into steam.
