If only our so-called "leaders" in this day and age had the common sense, and straightforwardness of this great man.
My gosh it would take them yrs and commitee after commitee, spending MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to even figure out what should be done.

I am with 338RUM on this. Lincoln suspended the constitution and did whatever it took to hold the union together. If he were president today, I think he would have declared marshal law, gave himself supreme power, and suspended our rights for "the greater good". Maybe he wasn`t a tyrant but he sure wasn't one that cared about states rights or constitutional rights.

I think Johnson, who replaced him, was more appropriately named Tyrant.
Even as a Southerner, I can't call Abe a tyrant.
So the definition of a tyrant is not jailing all members of the Maryland house of reps who were going to vote to leave the union, AND when the vote came up for general population vote he allowed ALL UNION FORCES IN MD to vote, rather they resided there or not. Because he could not allow Washington to be 50 miles INSIDE ENEMY LINES...
And lets not forget WV which was created un-constitutionally by "Honest Abe" who pushed and pulled power to allow a few counties of VA to form a state w/o allowing VA to vote on it (remember you need 2/3 vote to make another state)
No, if we forget ALL THAT (there is more btw) he was a great president.... Ba humbug...
