secrurity guard training

i was with my wifes cousin today .they needed a good place to shoot so they called up good ole peanut. . but any way he was practicing for a test to get a job as a security gaurd . and all you have to do is shoot from 30 feet away.and hit the 8 ring . man . i freaked out .i thought they made you go out to like 25 yards not feet but he told me they would be testing him at 7 feet and 25 feet and 30 feet . and he had to fire a total of 250 rounds.
and so many had to hit the 8 ring . i'm not braggin but with my .44special i can carve out that /9/10 ring with 250 rounds. i'm used to going out to 20 and 30 yards not 25 feet it was like takin candy from a baby i picked my gun up after a few loads it was to close i like it where you have those ocasional flyer's but when you are up that close how can you miss

but it does tell me one thing that the standards for this security company is very low atleast i think so.what do you guy's think is the testing distance for enough or what?

When I first got out of the Navy I went to work for the Army I was an armed guard at an Army Arsenel here in Virginia. I thought our requirments were a little slacking also. We had a 50 round course from 7 yards to 25 yards. All you had to do was keep it in the black on a B27 target. Forget the 8 ring Of course each state is differn't in what they require for armed security/guards and if in a military role like I was you go by the C.O.'s standards not the states.

Now that I'm a Police officer we still have a 50 round course from 7 yards to 25 yards but you need to actually SCORE on the B27

Here in Florida the requirements are pretty lame as I understand it...38spl 4" bbl (9mm if the company applies for a waiver).....but down here guarding the port (cruise ships) armed guards only make 8.50 an hour....brinks pays $9.00.....not worth the $150 class and 150 to the state for the armed lic....unarmed make about the same $$.

$50.00 an hour is no good if a person encounters someone who is motivated to commit crime as well as the violent type.

If it were $7 an hour or $14 an hour I'd make an effort to learn as much about my job as possible and continue to train and improve my self. (including marksmanship if armed)

No matter what the money, if a person dosen't work on upgrading their skills they might want to think about another job or they may get themselves or someone else hurt.

Combat range is 7 to 10 yards so that's about right.

lets think about this for a min.
security guards are not cops they do not make arrests and are not inteded to be anymore than a deterent not a force to be delt with so do they have to be as good as a competion shooter for thier sake i would hope they would try to be considering they may need to be to save thier own skin but they don't most never even draw thier weapon unless requalifying so they don't need to shoot past 30 feet.
they are only to pull thier weapon as a last resort anyway, and this is considered self defence teritory, as they are not sworn officers, even if licensed by the state, so anything past 15yrds is not considered selfdefence so why have them qualifie at anything other than what is laegaly defendable?
I agree it does seem lacking for a person who carrys for a job but if you where driving a taxi you wouldn't have to take a drivers test in a tank either.
