I reached down to pull a weed and this **** baby brown snake came out of hiding. I had scissors in my hand that I use for cutting weed trimmer line and sliced him/her. I didn't know if it was poisonous or not so I wasn't about to stick around to find out. I about wet my pants as I ran into the house to get Seabee. I've Googled and Yahooed myself to death trying to find any thing on this snake. The best that I came up with is, it's a baby Texas Brown Snake. I could be wrong and if I am please let me know. I well never reach down and pull another weed ever again. Next time I go into town I am buying a hoe with a long handle.
CGO, Seabee did say that you were deadly with those scissors. Wish I could tell ya what type snake. I am use to seein gardener snakes, and copper heads, and cotton mouths, and black snakes. If the dogs don't get the snakes I do. I have tried to tell them to leave the good snakes alone and only go after the bad snakes. They don't listen.

The references to "brown snakes" I came up with all talk about Australia, and how deadly dangerous their venom is. Would someone please educate me about Texas Brown Snakes?
How was I to know if he was poisonous or not? I sure wasn't going to stick around to wait and see. It should have stayed in Texas and not my flower bed in OK. I don't like snakes!!!
It lived and Seabee took it out to the woods where it should had been in the first place.

Well, I guess if y'all have a cat to take care of rodents.... I've always considered cats as simply furry snakes with legs. They are as twisty and supple as snakes, have a viperine head and FANGS!! I'm betting some are venomous too.......

I didn't put this thread up to get members upset. So if you do get upset please don't. All I wanted was to see if any of the members knew if it was a Texan Brown snake or not.

I wasnt upset with you, just the comment that was made saying that people who like snakes must have something wrong with them.
This link has a picture of a Texas rat snake for reference. Texas Rat Snake
People say the same about gun owners, nothing wrong with liking snakes.
Just because you dont like something doesnt mean it should die. And I take offence to that comment as a snake keeper.
Completely understandable, I always err on the side of caution when dealing with snakes. You also need not worry, it will take much more than this to get under my skin. The snake is alive and well as are you, sounds like a happy ending to me.
I'm not a snake lover either, but I don't go bat chit crazy when I come across one. I almost stepped on a very large adult Copperhead last summer, just as the sun was going down. The snake slowed, looked me over, then went on it's merry way. It didn't get into a defensive posture and I didn't scream like a little girl. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
