Phacopsrana...About ten years ago three of my buddies and I flew to Albuquerque from KC and drove up through Sante Fe along the Rio Grande River on our way to the ski slopes at Taos.
The town of Taos was very hospitable, and had plenty of amenities which we needed. The motel cost was very reasonable.
As we drove out of town through the barren countryside, which had mostly sage brush and a few very unpropsporous looking farm sheds around around their delapidated shacks, I kept wondering how anyone could exist there.
Got to the Taos mountain slopes eventually and compared to the Colorado mountains which I was used to, the slopes were much steeper, and underrated, but not very well groomed or marked.
We had an 8" snow one night which left us with some great slopes to plow down. Had fun, flew back home with both legs intact.
