I'm hoping we as a nation can get together and work together and start being Americans again. I'm hoping we can start producing more and importing less. I'm hoping we can fix our roads and our bridges and our streets so we can all come together over them to help each other and lift one another up. I'm hoping to see people start caring for others as much as they do about themselves. I'm hoping to see people putting aside their differences in favor of their likenesses. I'm hoping to see more meetings of the minds to brainstorm for some real solutions to some of our problems, I'm hoping to see helping hands that are willing to put those solutions in practice and that those hands will meet in a spirit of friendship to congratulate one another on a job well done. I'm hoping for neighbors that get to know one another and help each other and work with each other to make their neighborhoods safe for themselves and for their children. I'm hoping for the future. I'm hoping that Americans find themselves being Americans again, willing to work toward the common goal of making their nation one that they can all be proud of once more and one that is respected by it's neighbors, it's friends and even it's enemies. I'm hoping for these things to come to pass, and I'm preaching these things to my neighbors and friends, and I'm predicting that these things shall come to pass, and that our children will sleep safely in our communities and be able to live and grow and prosper in a better, stronger America than we have today. And I am refusing to listen to any more doom and gloom about us falling or failing. I'm going to wave the flag like a song and dance man in a George M. Cohan musical and if anyone wants to join me, I'm going to welcome them as a fellow American and a brother. If you love your country enough to help try and save it, then no matter what your race, creed, religion, political affiliation or any other unique personal trait you may possess or philosophy you may adhere to or whatever else makes you different from me that's absolutely 112% percent none of my ****ed business, you're alright by me!
I am hoping for one too. I am 33 and have three youngsters. I think it will be their children that will be at the forefront of the American Rennaissance. We need to take our education systems back, and make them local again and not so dependent on state or federal money, who use loans and grants to hold the school systems hostage and teach what the government says to teach. We need to teach our kids about about American gumption, individualism, and spirit and show that we are a great nation that the world looks to for guidance, and not a nation that bows down to foreign nations and kiss their but. That is what I will teach my children, no matter what the schools teach and I will not be afraid to tell me children that their schools can be wrong. I've said many times to my wife that times will be harder for them than they have been for us. They will learn the hard way to be tough Americans. Their children will see what their parents have gone through, and they will be the ones to restore America to what it should be. That is my hope. Restoring American will not happen quickly and no one President or Congress will accomplish the feat. The American Rennaissance will be a grassroots effort.
It's going to mean a lot of hard work and a climb up a very steep hill, but we can do it, if we do it together. Thanks for the hopeful replies, it lifts my spirits to see that some of you feel that way.

Even if our children are in local schools we can home school. Sit with your kids each night and read about our founding fathers and what they had in mind for this county. Don't let the government tell them what they want them to know. YOU be a responsible parent and American and teach your children the truth.
We are going to get in government what we have in public. There are way to many people who sit around and complain but never vote. You might be surprised how many people you know who don't bother to vote.
1 day a week, a few hours on that day isn't to much to ask from anyone to help others. Work at a soup kitchen, clothing closet or maybe mow the elderly neighbors yard. Stop being so self centered.
While you may have it nice there are hard working people out there that don't have it nice. Care if your neighbors need basic things. Do you see their children outside in the winter time with out a coat. Each of us can take care of one little detail to help the lives of our neighbors.
There are a lot of folks in this country right now without jobs. Oh, they use to have jobs at factories and while they didn't make great money they made enough to keep food on the table. Now those jobs are gone. Think about this each and ever time you buy an imported product.
You say American products cost more money. This is what I tell my children. Do you REALLY need three new shirts? How about you get one and get it made by an American worker. It might cost more but ALL of us have to do our parts to keep American jobs. We use to save for what we wanted. We didn't have to have everything right this min. Save to get things.
We complain about our government, and rightfully so, but each of us can help make our country strong right in our own neighborhood.
I think there is a spirit deep in most of us that wants this country strong and proud again. Nothing is going to happen if all we do is talk about it. Do your part.
We the regular folks, will figure this out well before the liars in DC or on Wall street admit to the game of deception, thats been played on the Country and if it gets to bad before they end the game, "WE" get to dole out the punishment and they really don't want to see this type of uglyness.
Good luck with that. You've got a few million teat-clingers in your way though that have no interest in anything but maintaining the status quo and keeping the handouts coming. And plenty of politicians who will keep those teats full in exchange for votes.
America of today ain't nothing like the America you want to see, the old version ain't coming back. Not without a whole lot of major ****.

I see where Ballbearing is coming from. I too am tired of the same ol crap. People doing nothing and raking it all in. Living off the gooberment teet. I see in my own little community people younger than me who do not work. Yet always have enough for their next beer. I try and help people where and when I can. The house next door to me sits empty. It belonged to an older black man. He passed away from what I hear 4 years ago, maybe 5 now. He was gone before I moved into my place. I know the older black man who mows the yard next door and I told him I would mow around the house. There is no fence between the 2 houses so it is only crossing from one yard to the next. Bottom line this is where it starts. It starts at home and works outward.

I know it won't be easy, I know it won't come without a cost, it never does. But I really do hope that there are some people out there who aren't afraid to throw a pebble in the pond to start a ripple. We can all do something, we can all be that butterfly who's wing beat starts a hurricane on the opposite side of the world. One brave person can make a difference, imagine what a hundred brave people could do, or a thousand. One person picks up a shovel and moves a shovel full of dirt at a time, a thousand people picking up shovels can dig a hole large enough to lay the foundation of a skyscraper in, in just a few days. The situation is grim, but not entirely without hope.

You place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the Truth
His name is on our greatest Monuments, and all our money too,
And when we Pledge allegiance, there's no doubt where we stand,
There is no separation, we're one Nation under Him.
Chorus:
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust
Now there are those among us, who want to push Him out,
And erase His name from everything, this country's all about,
From the Schoolhouse to the Courthouse, they're Silencing His Word,
Now it's time for all Believers, to make our Voices heard.
In God We Still Trust,
Here in America
He's the one we turn to every time
The goin' gets rough
He is the source of all our Strength
The One who watches over us
Here in America
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
Here in America
Here in America,
In God We Still Trust
Here in America,
In God We Still Trust
Here in America
The only thing that can save this his nation is a revival & faith.
Otherwise we are doomed!
Jeremiah 18:7 "At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;"

Up here in Yankee-Land, this is known as the "Giuliani Broken Window Theory." If broken windows don't get repaired, neighborhoods go downhill. If people take care of the little things, fix windows, mow lawns, put up window boxes and planters, and keep things painted, for themselves and their neighbors, the neighborhood will improve and thrive. The evidence of New York City's neighborhoods seems to support the theory.
Jesus said somewhere in the Gospels (I'm not a Bible scholar), "Love thy neighbor as thyself." If we practice that -- if we take care of our neighbors with little things like mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, helping them fix up houses, help them blow the leaves in the fall, just being neighborly -- I suspect quite a number of social problems would disappear.

All teets run dry sooner or later, just do your part and be ready cause when those goverment checks runout it's going to get ugly.

Cyrano, you're right. If a neighborhood looks run down the addicts are gonna take over. The homeless and the transients and the drug pushers will be taking over. The part of town that I live in at one time was called the black bottoms. There were 3 juke joints on the street I lived on. As a matter of fact I bought one of the old juke joints right across the street from my house. The building is a shack now. The area I live in was at one time all black. Well the properties were sold and we who live here now are trying to keep it kept up.
You are right about the social problems. Way back before welfare it was the church. The churches in the community were the major outreaches to the people. The churches would help each other to help the people in need.
Love thy neighbor as thy self. Yeah I forgot the address of that one too.

And the way to do that is stop the women on welfare poppin out kid after kid, by daddy after daddy just to stay on the system. Stop the illegal importation by gooberment officials allowing them to stay and giving all the hand outs a broken poor state can no longer aford to give. Stop the attitude of if the illegals did not pick the crops then we would would not eat. Anyone on welfare needs to work for what they get. Put the ones on welfare out in the fields to pick the crops. Get the gooberment out of the farming industry. Stop back room deals and behind closed door trading. If there is a crooked politician run him or her out of Washington on a rail. If you see the crooked politicians in your state run em out on a rail. Get rid of special gooberment departments such as the EPA, that GSA group that we the taxpayers are paying the wild parties to Vegas. Cut homeland security in half, and let the armed American citizens do their part. You know there was a time when they every community had a Civil Defense program, bring em back. Where did those go anyway?
I hope for, and work for, everything you listed Ballbearing.

As TNPirate said, it starts at home. How you treat yourself is evidenced in how you treat your family, how you treat your family is evidenced in how you treat your neighbors, how you treat your neighbors is evidenced in how you treat your community, how you treat your community...etc., etc.
Our Constitutional Republic (it's not a Democracy) is based on this concept. This is why our founding fathers created a "bottom-up" system of government. It's not working that way now because those in office like to tell us that they are in power. They are not. We are.
Too many people right now are trying to put out the fire by spraying water on the top of the flames. That's not how a fire is put out.
We all need to resolve what is in our heart first, resolve what is in our house second, resolve what is in our church (if one attends) third, and fix what is in our neighborhood next. If we all do this, it will resolve itself.
Matthew 22:36-40 New International Version (NIV)
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
