A cop writes ticket for flashing headlights to speeders. What an @&&HOLE! Must have ruined his quota! http://www.newschannel5.com/content/news/2637.asp

$1,000 for signaling others to slow down??? That's too much! Now there's two sides to this coin. Pro: It may cause the speeder to slow down, thus making it safer for other drivers. It may prevent some bloke from forking over needless hard earned cash for a speeding ticket. Con: It becomes a deterrent to LEO's catching speeders who endanger others on the highway. The next speeder may endanger me or my family. Personally, I used to signal to other drivers that radar was up ahead, but more times than not now...I figure the speeder needs to get a wake-up call. It may save someone's life. Ox:nod:

I have always looked at it this way: Speed limit signs are posted. If you can drive you can read. If you speed you take your chances of getting busted. If you get busted don't cry. I will agree that roads and highways are better than 20 years ago. Tire quality is better (unless of course you buy Firestone, lol). Today's vehicles handle better than earlier models. Those are some of the things that accounts for the national speed limited being raised from 55 MPH years back. It isn't any reason why you should push the envelope and put others' lives in jeopardy. All it takes is crossing over the line. A tire blowing out. Getting distracted. A strong gust of wind. Being too tired. An animal running out in front. Any number of things and then two families might be going to a funeral. I never give any drivers the heads up when I know radar is being shot. Although my wife will tell you I have a little game. I sometimes flash my lights when I know there is no radar around. Or if I see someone coming up like a bat out of hello I'll deliberately lay on the brakes and slowly slowdown like I'm picking up radar. I love to see 'em follow me for a few miles until they figure out they've been had, lol.

I have been following this locally as well and I loved hearing about his win today. As a former cop I will tell you lthe last thing I wanted to do was write a ticket - but in PRK County Deputies have no requirment to write a single ticket. So if I saw someone signalling I wouldn't care - in a TN the locals use tickets as a source of income which I think is wrong and we know that the officers have been told that they need to meet an income qouta so now I am for the signaling since it prevents the city/county form getting $'s they shouldn't be collecting in this manner in the first place

When a government DEPENDS on people breaking the law, they will ultimately act in the interests of getting money instead of the public safety. Same is true of the drug war.

Arizona has no quota laws either. Now some superivors WILL judge you by the number you write and I guess, that is some sort of indication you are doing your job. I always thought that, unless absolutely needed, warnings do just as much. It's my experience if someone get's a ticket they slow down for about 20-30 miles, at most. Then the habits kick back in. Warnings do the same. I often based my decision if the ticket was soft or hard on the person's behavior, comments, etc. The ones that amazed me was the out of staters that decide to wise off. Duh? You got nothing better to do than spend the money? I doubt if you're NOT going to send it in. Get wise azzed...you got yer hard copy.

Hey...that'll be my bald head reflecting your headlights as you give me the high beam. I've supported my share of highway projects with the fines I've paid over the years. Each time I've vowed to not let it happen again. Guess my righ foot is designed with too much lead in my big toe. :jaw: :smash: :right:
