Thumbs up The Deadly Brotherhood: The American Combat Soldier in World War II

The Deadly Brotherhood: The American Combat Soldier in World War II
John C. McManus ISBN: 0891418237 Random House Publishing Group August 2003

This is a different type of book. It is not a story like most books were one chapter leads to the other. This book reviews such things as equipment, leadership, medical treatment, view about the enemy, and why they fought. This book is from the front line infantry, tanker and combat engineer prospective. It includes quotes from actual, WWII combat soldiers. Not the usually general’s eye view, but the grunt’s view as told by grunts. This book is also unique in that each chapter is independent of the other chapters. You can read by subject, jump back and forth, or read the book from any direction. This book does not appear to holdback from calling it as it is. For example, the equipment section talks about the quality and reliability of US, Japanese, and German weapons. In this book the US Soldier did not always have the best and most reliable stuff. For any WWII vets this book will bring back memories. For us, younger folks, the book gives some good insight to the men who fought WWII and what they experienced.
