This is probably an ignorant question but is Romania still producing AK variants? I have an SAR-I from 1999, bought in 2001. When I look for information online I find nothing about the Cugir factory (not even on the Cugir City Chamber of Commerce site) and no mentions of present day Romanian AK production. Dealers in Shotgun News say "There are no more coming" yet there still seems to be a plentiful supply of them and prices do not reflect what I would expect if there were no more available. Anyone know the truth and why in the world (if it still exists) doesn't the factory making them in Romania have a website?
They still make them but Century who imports them and the Romanians could not come to terms on prices. I sense that AK prices will go down on pre-bans if the AWB does expire. I think the Romanians wanted to get every dime they could before that happens. The WASR-10 is still hitting our shores but not the SAR's. I have seen reports and pictures of what is being labled SAR's but they have no dimples and the receivers are flat on the sides like WASR's...I think WASR's are just being re-labled! They are also in thumbhole configuration instead of pistol grip.
