Oh My Gosh, maybe they will start banning bad books too?!?! I mean, you know how they make people do whats in them. Just like the video games do. Hmmm Lets start burning them so no one can get any crazy ideas. Nuff said.

Part of it, I think, does to a small extent stem from video games. If you put someone in a facsimile world, which they talk to their friends about, read about, and think about during math class, that world will to a small extent become real to them. Their role models will not be Washington, Lincoln, etc, who solved their problems rationally, but will be guys who solve their problems with 12 gauges, machetes, and hand grenades. If you are constantly around jerks, you will begin to emulate them.

Being older does not necessarily make you want blood and gore. I'm 16, and do not particularly want to even pretend to blow someone in half with a street sweeper. However, I am not afraid of blood. I have seen 3 surgeries, and one of our dogs lost 93% of his blood in one of the rooms of our house, and I and my stepfather were the only ones who could stand it enough to help. By the way, has anyone here smelled blood in large quantities? I bet that if video games had stench emitters, those gory games would dissappear real fast. But whatever floats yer boat!

AMEN!

My family is very strict by modern standards. We (brace yourselves) DON'T WATCH TELEVISION!!! And guess what? I like the strictness! All my relatives feel sorry for me, but I feel sorry for them! And I actually did watch TV until I was about 9. And I see it now, and feel active repugnance toward it! My mother and sister wear dresses, and THEY LOOK BETTER THAT WAY! We don't date, and I am glad. Dating is just training for divorce. And I can focus my energies on useful things without constantly worrying about girls. And if you don't like what I just said, go ahead, burn me in effigy! Set up a scarecrow at the range, pretend it's me, and rip it apart with lead! (that would actually be pretty cool.)

i'm curious, has anyone ever played the game in question?

i have. and it's fun. however, these people make is sound like the object of the game is to kill cops and hookers, shoot up nightclubs, and commit random acts of vehicular manslaugter.

for the uninitiated, the object of the game is to become the city's top crime boss. so you do jobs for the various gangs and the mafia. these jobs include driving the second bannanna's hooker girlfriend to the VD clinic, getting a van to drive at least ten hookers to the policeman's ball, whacking a stool pidgeon before he gives any information (which can be accomplished either by following his cab, or stealing a cab, driving him to a secluded spot, then shooting him, or by simply running the thing off a clif or bridge and jumping out at the last moment, or driving him to his destination, getting payed for the trip, then running him over.), taking part in a series of street races, and getting the Godfather's daughter, stealing a boat, and getting the feck away from his hit teams that are chasing you.

of course, that's GTA:3. in Vice City, you do the same thing, only it's the 80's, and the missions/jobs include shooting a pizza delivery boy off his moped, helping the cuban gang in their war with the Hatian gang, and having your brain taken over by the leader of the hatian gang with voodoo and killing members of the Cuban gang. then there are sort of minigames like with the taxi company you can buy, where you can drive people around the city in record time.

theoretically, you can go through the entire game without having to steal a car, or kill a cop, or hooker. but the game is so open-ended, you can spend days just wreaking havok around the city. however, there are conequences. if you kill a cop, just like in real life, the cops will come after you.

kill a cop, you get a star. this isn't a good star. you get five, they call out the swat team, get five more, they sic the FBI on you, set up road blocks, and deploy the spike strips, five more, they call in the army, and all the pedestrians are replaced with soldiers, and all the vehicles on the road are replaced with tanks and HMMWVs. did i mention the choppers that are shooting at you?

yeah.
