I never carry a weapon its illegal here in new mexico we have tried to get carry laws but to no avail, and I would not want to have a leo stopping me for speeding or some such and getting cuffed for it so I never carry a weapon, at home its a different story, no kids, , just a nice piece of hickory---nothing like a nice piece of hickory (clint eastwood) and maybe that aks with a 40 round clip

Hey 7Mag, check www.packing.org - it seems that New Mexico may have CCW registration in Jan 2004. In fact, anyone reading this post note the above web address, it's some of the best concealed carry information for any and all states I have ever found. It pays to know the rules - and follow them.

:assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: Me, call me paranoid but I allways have mine with me or at least at grabing distance. My daughter is 18 now and I've made clear to her not to touch it without my supervision. My bedroom is offlimits to any visitor, and any babe coming to the bedroom is going to play with only one loaded gun!! :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult:

Erm, this is kinda silly question, I think. But if I have a loaded gun it's either aimed at a critter or about to be, I never store or leave a gun loaded, clip in yeah, but not loaded, also I'm not talking self defence, which is a different kettle of fish altogether.

hows the summer down under??? the discussion started about how one keeps a loaded handgun, ready for use but away from the curious. say keep the gun on the nightstand, but upon arising putting it where little kids, and teenage creeps can't get it. are you allowed to shoot an intruder at 3 am where you live??? |

Rifles, shotgun and handgun are in the upper gun cabinet. Ammunition in a milsurp ammo box in the base cabinet. Everything is locked. No kids left at home but grandkids are here a lot. I could not live with any sort of accidental shooting so I keep the key hidden and have trigger locks attached. At one point in time I kept a loaded gun hidden on top of a dropped ceiling tile.

Most kids are interested in guns. Parents should explain firearm use to their children, much like they would with matches...to remove the mystery surrounding it. Why? Letting a child shoot a gun under adult supervision will teach him the immense power and danger of its use. A child will learn to respect firearms, not be misguided by what is seen on television. Children can be taught the basic rules of gun use, even with a pellet gun or a .22 caliber firearm, in a controlled setting. from the Phoenix AZ govt web page.

My philosophy also Jerry. My 8yo doesn't even bother trying to mess with my rifles in my room. My 5yo a while back was trrying to mess with one I had against the wall (empty) but I shooed him away in which he replied: bow! bow! bow!. He is still a little too immature to handle the responsibility right now but when he is able he will be shown.

hey fella's, summer down under is dang hot, but hey, better than freezing yer keister off hey. Yep I figured this was a self defence type question. As for being able to shoot an intruder at 3am, well you'd have to wait untill he'd shot you first, and then run to your triple pin locked safe, get a gun, then open the ammo cupboard and load it, and then shoot the bad guy. And then spend the next 10 years or so in prison, but not before the baddies family had sued you for all you had, because of emotional distress, and loss of income. It's better to forget you own a gun in these situations. security screens and a couple of big assed dogs in the yard work as a better deterrent.

Hey Mick...welcome back. It's been a while. That 70 Deg F heat down in Melbourne sounds great to me. Of course, you're a lot closer to the equator than they are. Are you up to the 90's yet? I understand what you've said but my understanding here in the U.S. is that if your life is threatened then you can shoot the perp. Of course, anyone can attempt to sue in retaliation and that alone could be a major hassle. That doesn't mean they can win. But...I'm willing to shoot someone if I get an opportunity when they're threatening me or my family. I'll take the hassle later as part of my price. The biggest problem I have mow is that I don't have a loaded gun at my convenience all the time. Everything's locked up in my cabinet.
