Talking Didn't They Used to Call Those ...

Didn't They Used to Call Those ...

A Middle School in New York state has borrowed from the early 16th Century German custom of bringing a tree into a building and adorning it with decorations, reports the Oswego Daily Herald.

But it is not a Christmas tree, says teacher Debbie Smith. It is a “diversity tree” and is decorated with ornaments celebrating the world's cultural, ethnic, and religious differences.

Repeat: it is not a Christmas tree.

Thumbs down

I agree with all of your reactions.

FYI: It is a violation of the Fire Code in Kansas City to bring flammable materials such as a cut Christmas tree inside of public buildings, including schools.

Had a fire marshall about "blow a fuse" once when one of the elementary school principals in my district brought in bales of hay, a cut Xmas tree and electrical lighting decorations for an assembly. The marshall made a surprise inspection and threatened to close the building if it wasn't removed within 15 minutes. She complied and the marshall became scrooge.

Exclamation

I understand about that, Oxford. A couple years ago, the folks on the tenth floor of the Dept of Education here won the Christmas decoration contest hands-down. Walking into their suite was like stepping into a production of "White Christmas". Paper flagstones, wooden gate, every wall and the ceiling covered with stuff. Every nook and cranny had a different Christmas theme. Absolutely beautiful!
Til the building super saw it all and had a cow!
Took 'em a week to get it all up - one afternoon to tear it all down.
