They allow open carry here in AZ. I have been Terry stopped in a mall once. Aparantly they have a no weapons rule that is printed on their directory. Like I ever look at those things... Another time I had a clerk at a gas station say, "I always get nervous when you guys come in with those things". My response was, "Its not a crazy guy with a gun that you have to worry about. Its a crazy guy with the ONLY gun that is a problem". He sat confused for a second and I left. I have seen some nervous glances from time to time, but I have also gotten into some cool discussions with fellow shooters because of it too. It goes both ways I guess... |

Its very common to see bikers with sidearms here. Some of them make me nervous around them. They are mostly a pretty good bunch of guys. I have carried too but I dont like the looks I get. Some people are deathly afraid seeing a guy with a gun. Get a CCW and you will still be armed and not scare people! |

I carry around town quite a bit. I'm never approached or questioned. Of course, I'm well known in town if not by name by sight so I don't look suspicious to them. I've carried in other parts of the state and can't really remember having encountered any wary people saying something. I have received a few undecided looks but nothing I'd have sweat over. And most of those looks come from people from other states that are unfamiliar with our gun laws. I have never been stopped by LE but, then again, I'm very careful not to carry into prohibited buildings, stores, etc. Although the law in Arizona reads that you can't take a weapon into a store with a posted notice if an otherwise OK store owner asks you to remove yourself and the gun ya better do it. If you are a cool head most LEs look for open carry violations not to put someone in their back seat. I remember telling one individual that carrying inside their waist band (like a bucaneer and not in holster) was a no no and suggested he take it and lock it in his vehicle which he did. I think the populus of Arizona, as a whole, is a tolerant lot when it comes to our gun laws. And those of us that do carry have an obligation to be level headed about it and use common sense at the same time.

Until the recently passed CCW legislation is ruled on by the Missouri Supreme Court, the following is what I follow. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that in Missouri a gun may be carried in a vehicle as long as it's in plain sight and the ammunition is in the trunk or otherwise inaccessible.

Alaska has the best in my mind. Any citizen who is legally allowed to own a gun may carry concealed. They also have CCW permits which have reciprocity agreements. Open carry is also kosher.

we have open carry laws here, it was common to see a gun rack in the back of a pick ups in the 60s and early 70s, these days its different, i never carry, leos have enough problems, without people that carry, i would get cuffed probably spend a night in the county jail while they sorted it out, its a new world, sad but true, the law is still on the books, i gave up carrying in the mid 80s, the good old days (sigh)
