Romanian .22 Target Rifle

Anyone bought one of the surplus .22 rifles that SOG is advertising for $59? They look good in the picture........hard to really tell though.

Big 5 had some here a year or so ago. I looked at a few and passed on them. I'm sure for the money they were good but they just didnt do a thing for me.

I'm just looking for something that my youngest son can work with until he gets older (something that I could modify, if necessary). Sure wish we had a Big 5 somewheres close....

For the price, how can you go wrong? They looked very well made.

Thumbs up

I got mine at our local gunshow, and have been pleased with it.
Some do have issues - mine has difficulty with feeding from the magazine. I finally figured out what was wrong, and the fix will be easy - just need to get a little time to do it, maybe this weekend.
Accuracy is very good, considering the low price.
Fitting a scope can be tricky - depends on the width of the top ridge (it's not a scope rail). Mine is close enough for the basic .22 dovetail rings to work, after I undercut a groove on each side (those Dremels are great little gadgets!). Some have narrower rails that require a special set of rings. I figure it would be real easy to drill&tap the flat top for a weaver rail, too.
My wood was quite pretty, once I scoured of that Gawd-awful Eastern-European "Varnish-From-Hell". Stained and tung-oiled, it's very nice now.
For the price, and if you don't mind a little project, they are great little rifles.

Thanks for the good info, folks. Something that can be a project is really what I'm after, anyway.

Quit teasing me with the photos, Joe. My will to resist another gun buy is awful weak....

I get all fired up about the .22 and then start thinking.....I could get another nice 91/30 for about the same price......there's only one answer; get both...

I just got back from the Gun Store, got me some silicone sacks for storing the Mosins. They got a Rommie trainer there for $79...didn't look bad...crappy Euro vanish like Big Dog said....nice wood though, would clean up nice.
