Why you dislike the trigger group, Shaun?

As much as I dig my 10/22 stainless, I really dig the 7.62x39 round and would rather have that backing me up or taking game if I only had one rifle.

its tendancy to go auto in a semi auto action -- I owned one for a short period of time many many years ago and if you held the trigger in the right position the sear wouldn't lock causing a burst rather than a single round ---- if I am only going to have one gun and a limited amount of ammo then I want control over the number of rounds discharged

That problem is not unheard of, but not the most common either.

BRG3 its the downfall if you have limited ammo - now if you want a budget gun that can go full auto the SKS is it - that one I had if you put plastic between the trigger guard and the trigger at a fixed thickness you could cause a full auto burst and empty a mag quickly

If an SKS goes full auto, that's a major malfunction. My Yugo has never had that problem. My friend GunGeek's Romy did once and a gunsmith majorly gouged him doing nothing useful.

The question was: nWhich would I choose....There were no other qualifying remarks ....so....I choose the 10/22. I just like it better, lighter, more ammo, lighter ammo, any number of other reasons. But, just my choice. However, if other things were considered......maybe, I would reconsider my choice then.

| Well, nows my chance! Originally posted by Shaun its tendancy to go auto in a semi auto action -- I owned one for a short period of time many many years ago and if you held the trigger in the right position the sear wouldn't lock causing a burst rather than a single round ---- if I am only going to have one gun and a limited amount of ammo then I want control over the number of rounds discharged | I think I can explain, some, maybe, well, just a little, maybe.....It has been explained to me like this....the SKS does not have a spring to control the fireing pin. Add that with some "soft" primers and, you have a "slam fire", this is what is happeing, unless the sear is extreamly worn. I recently discussed this with a gun smith friend I know whom seems to be up on SKS and aks. I had just mentioned that it seemed easy to make an SKS full auto. Yes, i know, it is illegal and I'm not suggestiong anyone do it!!!! When I explained my plan....he told me SKS's were never full auto. I can see why but, I had a plan and he thought it would work with minor adjustments. !!!! it dude, I'm a car mechanic, not a gun smith! So, Shaun, do you think it is possible your SKS experiance was caused by the inertia of the bolt transporting the fireing pin into the primer? I'll be interested to hear your opinion.

Don't AKs also have a springless firing pin? Reason this happens with SKS pins is that some are mismatched and some are stuck after years of storage. An easy fix.
The FCG stuff is a little more complicated, but again it's an error that comes from production or use, not a design flaw.

If you keep the firing pin clean and moving freely you should not have any slam fires.

I would take the 10/22 for the simple fact that its more accurate. I love the 7.62X39 but I would rather hit the target ten times out of ten.

i picked the SKS, and thats coming from someone with 3 SKSs and not a single 10/22. I like the gun, it's accurate enough to keep me and mine fed, but by no means a sniper weapon. Simple, rugged, cheap, what more do you need? And as far as the light gun, light ammo, more ammo comment, i got burned on the M-16 and those same arguments used for it's favor. Why would i wanna hit a target 10 times to knock it down when i can hit it once?
