Some guy thought I cut him off so he got out of his car and approached mine when we stopped at the light. He was parked directly behind me. He came up and yelled that I had used the wrong blinker. I apologized. He walked away. Later I realized that he was actually the traffic law offender, but I guess No Harm No Foul ruled the morning.
My hand was very close to my .45, and I was aware of the great tactical disadvantage that I was in, but I didn't want to escalate it by getting out myself.
It was a great way to get the heart pumping in the morning.
I would have pulled the pistol up to the window and warned him that his next forward move would be his last. But you handled it correctly as it was soon diffused.

Lenny -- if your trapped in a vehicle (something I learned in advanced officer training) lean back as far as you can to get behind the pillar. The pillar can afford you some minimal protection since it is made up of many layers of metal vs a single layer

Glad to hear everything wound up okay
I remember hearing from my friends in LE that being "trapped" in your vehicle as someone approaches is a very dangerous position. That was going through my head the whole time. But I was also thinking that there are a lot of armed people in AZ, and this guy was pizzed off. A shootout in heavy traffic was not my first choice, but staying in my vehicle was also dangerous.
In retrospect, I think I should have put my holstered gun in the small of my back and exited the vehicle. Oh well...meybe next time
the key is nothing happened and now you are aware of the issue -- personally thats why I like cross draw you can have the gun under your cover drawn and waitin if necessary
When in the car, I carry my gun in the space between the drivers side seatbeltt receptacle and the center console. The handle is protruding enough for me to get it very easily but the rest of the gun is tucked snugly away. Its like Ford designed it for me to store my gun there
Lenny, I tip my hat to you. You did good, son....yepper...fer sure.
First of all you didn't panic and escalate the situation and secondly you were rational enough to mentally prepare yourself for a worse case scenario.
I think if it had been me I'd have slid the gun up where this guy could see it just in case he had some ill thoughts and to let him know I was prepared had he gotten stupid.
Road rage can come in many forms and present itself in just as many appearances.
Some time ago my wife and I had been at a local Phoenix metro area restaurant.
On the way home, and as we began to stop at a red light a low rider sedan, with very, very dark tinted windows all around, pulled up the left side. Yet it stayed back so the passenger window was behind my window.
I looked over my shoulder and couldn't make anyone out except the passenger window was down about two inches and I saw two beady eyes staring at me.
It didn't feel right....just didn't feel right.
On the way to the next light I slowed way down (preparing to get to an open parking lot if needed) and the car next to me slowed down and stayed slightly behind me.
It didn't feel right....just didn't feel right.
At the next stop light it was a re-play of the first light. When the light turned I sped up....oh, probably about 55 mph and the car kept up with me but lagged slightly back.
It not only didn't feel right....it was starting to feel rotten. And, I told my wife to get her gun out also and if I began firing she was to begin firing. No hesitations.
At the next light I rolled down my window and purposely let the car next to me see I had the cell phone up to my ear.
At the next red light he/she got behind me but turned right on red and left the area.
Was it a threat? Maybe not...maybe so. I perceived it as a potential threat in the making.
Point is: it can happen to anyone at any time and in the nicest of neighborhoods and streets/highways.
Once gain Lenny, proud of ya and glad it didn't get out of hand.
