A Marion County teenager is dead after an explosion at an abandoned house Monday. Officials say the explosion was caused by a shotgun blast to an old army ammunition box during target practice.
West Marion High School student Marshall McCleod was critically injured and later died at a local hospital after his friend Tyler Thomas shot an army ammunition box with a 20-gauge shotgun. The box was apparently filled with dynamite.
Witnesses say the blast could be felt and heard from more than three miles away from the scene on Ranch Road near the White Bluff community.
Marion County sheriff's deputies say federal ATF agents will continue to investigate the incident.
Police- 'Jackass' Stunt Ends With Teen's DeaththeKCRAchannel.com
Updated: 4:41 p.m. ET Jan. 19, 20049:08 a.m. PST January 19, 2004 - A stunt seen on a popular television show is being blamed for the death of a Marysville teen.
Police said a group of teens gathered at a park at Greeley Street and Rideout Way over the weekend to re-enact a stunt they had seen on the MTV program "Jackass."
The teens attached a rope to a merry-go-round and tied the other end to a pickup truck. When the truck went forward, the ride would spin.
Bobbi MacKinnon, 16, was killed when she was thrown 75 feet from the rided and landed in the street.
The show does warn viewers not to attempt any of the stunts, but MacKinnon's friends and family say it's not enough.
"The audience it was aimed at doesn't pay attention," MacKinnon's grandmother, Pat Fleck, said.
"I see the little thing on the TV show ...'Don't try this at home.' Yeah right ... I mean if they can do it, we can do it," friend Andrew Royster said.
Nationally, several teens have been killed or seriously injured in recent years after performing stunts they said they had seen on "Jackass."

That could be almost an Alabama thing - you know, what's the last thing a redneck says just before he dies? -
"Hey ya'll, watch this sh*t!"
OR could it have been a case of; "hey, if tannerite is good, this oughtta really rock!"

Thief steals $100,000 from Powerball winner's vehicle

Scott Depot
Record Powerball winner Jack Whittaker and his money seem destined to part.
For the second time in five months, Whittaker's vehicle was broken into and thousands of dollars were taken.
The latest incident occurred Saturday morning when someone broke out the window on his S-U-V and took a bank bag from the front seat containing more than 100 thousand dollars. The vehicle was parked at Whittaker's Scott Depot house.
In August, more than 500 thousand dollars in cash and cashiers checks was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at a Charleston-area strip club.
The money was later recovered and the club's manager and his girlfriend were charged.
Whittaker claimed a 113 million dollar cash option after winning a 314-point-nine million dollar jackpot on Christmas Day 2002, the largest individual jackpot in history.
Putnam County Sheriff's deputies are investigating Saturday's theft.
This happened not far from me and the local news is all over it.
They are calling for the show to be canceled. My question is why would you think just because you saw some thing on TV that it would be a good idea to try it. Don't we as parents have the responibility to teach our kids that TV is fiction, and that the real world is much harsher.
I believe that it again goes back to personal responibility for your actions, sure it is sad that that little girl died, but why was thier parent letting them watch this kind of crap. Plus I heard from one of the local channels that they used TWICE the amount of rope than the show used therefore causing the merry go round to spin that much faster.
I want to know where the parent were??????
So IF I run off a clif like the coyote (roadrunner coyote) I cant leave an cool impression on the ground and get up and try it again....but I seen that on tv and te cartoon had no disclamer telling me not to strap ACMY rockets on my roller skates...
