The mad refinisher strikes again!

Here's my latest creation. A 2002 SAR-2. Bought this rifle from a fellow boardmember at AK-47.net who had done the triggerslap fix and instead of a sheapard's hook, he installed 2 half moon clips on each axis pin. Really cool idea, made removal and reinstalation a snap.

Metal striped and refinished in matte black Molyresin. Bolt carrier sand blasted to an even satin finish. I put a laminate stock set on it that I refinished with a little Doc Martin's saddle brown and 3 coats of Tung Oil, lightly steel wooling to leave behind, a semi-gloss finish. I took a new bakelite mag and finished it in matt black Molyresin as well.

Some unexpexted bills forced me to sell her. Posted her and in ten minutes she was sold with 2 waiting if deal falls through!

The color is much closer in the first 2 picks but this does show the neat figure of the lower hand guard.

nice gun but i don't care for the dull tone to the bolt carrier. i like the glossy look .but the rest of the gun is nice.

Thanks guys, by the way Papa G that one is really straight! Nice thing is I've gotten a few fellas who want me to refinish their stock sets for them after posting the pics. Nothing like making money doing what you love to do. Now I just need to get an FFL so that guys could send me their weapons to refinish.

Thanks again

Tom

It's a good thing your blessed with the time to do these beautiful guns. Iv'e refinished a couple & just can't find the time anymore. I know how labor intensive it can be.

Keep 'em rolling, look forward to more pics!

More beautiful than Janet Jackson's mammalian protruberance displayed at the Super Bowl.

If you have the guys take off the wood and send it to you I don't think you'd need an FFL. Maybe you already do that and I misunderstood, but your work seems like it could pull in enough money that you'll never have to sell another SAR.

Hes talking about refinishing the rifles in molycoat...then he would need an FFL for the RIFLE. He was not talking about needing an FFL to redo the wood.

Joe's right, that's what I meant. I've had quite a few inquiries for me to refinish guys AK's but without an FFL, each transaction would also include on average, an extra $50 worth of transfer and backround check fees. So wat should cost a customer $125 for the metal would then cost $175.

I'm glad to see someone else taken with making the little Romaians pretty. With a little work they really look nice. Really good lookin job TEA! If you've done any of the earlier ones you know how bad some of the furniture can be on them. Check out Ironwood Designs, they make a nice furniture set in either maple or black walnut. They require final fit and finish but boy do they look good! I've got one now that has no stain on the wood, just oil & it looks really nice.
I'm not sure what it is about this necessity to make ugly guns pretty? I just got a ragged 'ol Mosin M-44 just to take it apart and see how it cleans up? So far it's not bad, but that's comparing to what it looked like a couple of days ago! I've never seen so much crap finish on a piece of wood in my life. I use this stripper called Dad's which has proven to remove about anything. I soaked this old Mosin stock down and let it sit for about half an hour - and it didn't bubble which is unusual. I slopped on another layer and let it sit - nothing? So, I decided to get the scuff pad and see if anything was loose yet, it was like dragging a piece of hurricane fence through thick mud! I got a putty knife and started scraping, this junk was comming off in 1/16 inch slabs! I couldn't believe it, I bet the thing will be 4 or 5 pounds lighter with all that junk off!

I think it's a motor oil varnish with a handfull of dirt. I had a 2000 SAR that was a dark chocolate brown, till I( got the old crap off. Turned out it was a nice stock set under all the old varnish.

Not at all! I'm really nervous about all the Federal proctologists that'll be up my !!!!!. Sending the packet off soon though. So folks who would like the TEA treatment on their weapons will soon be able to. I'm refinishing a Llama 1911 for a friend and I'll post the pics soon. Should look really cool.
