this phenomenon even crosses the line while people are presently on active duty. I was in San Francisco heading to Okinawa in the mid 80's. I was talking to this Army troop (newbe too), he had more ribbons and crap than a General. I had my 1 basic ribbon. I finally asked him about all the hardware. He replies it just looked good so i put it on. I'm not generally rude, but i walked away witout saying a word that day.

Well, for the non-vets out there, real special forces people have a good understanding of life and death and know how fast things can go south; they AVOID confrontations. They also have no need to brag or prove how macho they are to strangers. They are the guys sitting quietly in the corner.

The Idiots dont just say stuff like that about the Military
I have seen them say the same type of stuff about Motorcycle clubs. And MC'a are a MUCH smaller and a MUCH more tight knit group.
When they do this what they are saying is "I think you are cool and I want you to pay attention to me"
"I am very impressed with you and I want you to be impressed with me"
It's just another Americam Emotional Health Problem
When you have 17yr olds killing each other over a set of custom rims for a automobile.
It seems to have become so much more important, what other people think of them.
I have seen grown men that have accomplished great things in their lives (in my opinion) and they start this BS about motorcycle club stuff, talking about stuff that hell,I was there at. It's hard to not bust their bubble or bust something else.
Sometimes (very seldom) you can reason with them
Usually you cant. They act like cought children claiming they dont have their hand in the cookie jar
It's silly it's stupid and It seems to me to be a growing problem
It happends all the time now a days where use to be almost never would you have something like that happen.
I just cant believe that people are as Emotionally Mature as they once where.

I like to get to the range early on weekends, when the old vets are there. Sometimes we get to swapping "war stories" (of which I have precious few), but these guys almost never brag of killing or other such things. That's far too personal a matter for those who were actually there.
I learn a lot from these vets, be they Marine, Army, Navy or Airforce. My hat's off to 'em all.

When I worked with inmates, most serving life ++ as a Prison counselor it was intresting to watch young punks come into the real prison with gang tatoos ... for gangs they did not belong to but figured they could BS their way through...welp them gang mebers are of course very understanding of stupid punks disrespecting their gang...they usealy gave the punk 24 hours to get the tattoo off or the arm or..their choice...found out about this when talking to a few punks who cut the tattoos of...you know why did you hurt your self..oh because your stupid.....

Vodkazombie, I appreciate your answering back to my post. My son who I mentioed is a Marine, he is on his second tour now as he reenlisted this past October. He was stationed at Iwakuni for 2 years with MAG-12. I just wanted to tell some real vets about this guy I work with, and to see if that was a common problem they had encountered.

Doglips, thanks for getting back to me on this post. I wanted to know from vets if this was something they had seen before, and how they handled it. Yep this guy I'm talking about is one pathetic person. He's invented this fantasy life about hisself. I guess someone that does that is a very insecure person. It still makes me mad though, because I am so proud of my son. He is on his second tour, having reenlisted last October. He got promoted to SGT. out at 29 Palms while on a CAX exercise. He truly loves the Corps, and is gun-ho in every way. He is doing real well in there, he has earned 3 NAMS in the past 3 1/2 years of service. I guess thats why I get so upset when hearing this faker tooting his horn. I want to say to you and all the vetrens that are on the forum, Thank you for standing for me on the wall of freedom.

Re: do you work with stupid people

Jesse, et al:
I did my time, been there, gave away the T-shirts, etc. Friend of mine was a sniper and went up a tree once. He needed to see over the assembled troops so he could pop the speaker when he came out to give his address. Ran for 3 days to get to a clear LZ.
I work for the Army at Rock Island. A few days after 9-11, security had been greatly increased. A joker refused vehicular search and claimed to have a truck full of anthrax. For his resistance and "joke", he's doing 30 years in a federal pen. Not a laughing matter.

Well Doglips

What happened with the package? was it a bomb?

If the guy had watched just one more episode of CSI he would have known that he would need a Swiss army knife to open the package.
