LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Bob Knight's famously volatile temper apparently has gotten him in trouble again.
According to ESPN.com, the Texas Tech head coach will be suspended five days for a verbal confrontation with the university's chancellor in a Lubbock grocery store.
Knight is expected to miss the 18th-ranked Red Raiders' game against Baylor on Tuesday and Saturday's contest at Kansas. A Texas Tech spokeswoman said the school would not have a comment on the issue until the afternoon, but Knight is expected to discuss his suspension in a news conference later Tuesday.
A witness told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that Knight was approached by school chancellor David Smith and complimented on his recent good behavior.
Knight became agitated, accusing Smith of being a liar and saying there had been nothing wrong with his behavior this year, the witness told the paper. Smith tried to walk away but Knight followed. According to the witness, there was physical contact between the men.
Knight has more than 800 career victories, including NCAA Tournament championships in 1976, 1981, and 1987 at Indiana. But he also is known for his aggressive behavior.
One such incident led to Knight's dismissal from Indiana in September 2000, when he was accused of a grabbing a student by the arm and cursing him after the student called out, "Hey, Knight, what's up?" He was fired by the school for violating the behavior policy.
Just in December, Knight, who was being interviewed with Iowa head coach Steve Alford by ESPN, launched into a profanity-laced tirade after he was asked about his relationship with Alford, a former player. Knight later apologized.
