Talking Yipes! I ground off the end of my middle finger!

Dang it! Today I was using my disc and drum sander and the small part slipped under the guard and my middle finger...left hand plunged onto the sander. Man...that hurt!:jaw: :insane: I sande3d the finge3r almost to the bone really fast. Shop floor looked like I'd been shot or something.

My son-in-law had asked me yesterday to replace the plastic sides on his 4" hunting knife with wooden sides. No problem...except forgot a safety rule...keep the guards real close to the operating parts.

As a result every other word I type has to be type3de ov3er becdause my lefg middlw finger is wrappee up with a big waed of gaujse and it puncdhe3s more3 than one key.

Think I'll have a beer or some3thing and licck my wounds.

Joe...My bird finger is on the other hand. Yes, I've put HO on it to clean it up and then alcohol. Wow! :jaw: That did burn!

Since then I've just returned from playing three sets of tennis tonight (right handed this time) and re-dressed the wound. Looks like I'll live. :lucky: Sure did make me feel stupid when it went "POW" and "Wham" "Bam" as I moved forward with my full weight(and that's a lot of B.S.) on the sanding drum. Looked down and my left middle finger was already dripping blood like my jugler was cut. :guitar:

At least I'm able to punch the computer keys better this evening.

That sounds a little like my "Jesus wound", when I plunged a broken drill bit into my wrist. Glad to hear you're on the mend. Mine is still healing after 3 weeks, but at least I now have full motion of my left hand.

I hope to wise up when I get older. Sure does make me feel stupid because I knew that guard was just a little too high but didn't change it. Glad it wasn't any worse so this was a good wake up call.

Exclamation OUCH!

Good thing it wasn't your trigger finger.
Many years ago, my Dad had an accident with a Jointer-Planer. It took off the first 3/4 inch of one thumb, in very thin slices! Luckily, an uncle was with him, and got him to a Sawbones quick.

Gotta be real careful with power tools.

DANA...Yes...that Hoppes should cure anything.

Papa G...I'm too impatient to use the sanding block...plus, the wood is red oak and has a very hard surface to sand.

If this would have happened years ago, back when I was teaching shop classes to H.S. students, they would have made me study those safety rules again for the disc and drum sander.

Big Dog...since I'm right handed, my trigger finger remains ready for action, and full length.

The good thing now is that I've got the wooden grips for my son-in-law's 4" knife nearly completed. It's looking really good...almost ready to attach to the knife mechanism after I soak the oak grips in warm linseed oil a few times. :right:

What's that? After 42 years of marriage (almost) any kind of a change might be interesting.

Got the skin of my knuckles chewed from a chop saw because I was reaching under the blade to remove some wood debris.

Nothing serious just needed a bandaid.

Phacopsrana...you were lucky to come out so well. I use a chop saw a lot but haven't had any problems...yet. In fact, tomorrow I'll be installing a handrail on a Habitat For Humanity house and I'll mitre the ends of the rail before attaching a short piece at 90 Degrees to the wall. Didn't use to have to put the end pieces on but now city code requires them.
