| Defense will hunt beer for bullets thief
Defense will hunt beer for bullets thief An unknown member of the Norwegian Defense traded 10,000 rounds of stolen ammunition for crates of beer. This surprise revelation emerged in the trial of a National Guard officer, and the Defense promise an investigation. "We had no information about this whatsoever. We take these charges very seriously and will investigate them, first by talking with police. We will pursue this matter internally to the greatest extent possible," said assistant press spokeswoman Major Beate Midttun. A 38-year-old officer in the National Guard was recent convicted by a Fredrikstad court for receiving stolen property, a large consignment of military pistol ammunition. He paid for 10,000 9mm bullets with beer he bought at employee prices at the brewery where he worked. The officer traded roughly 30 cases of beer for the ammunition. The man refused to name his supplier, who had a position in the Defense. The court sentenced the officer to four months in prison, and sharply criticized the crime's circulation of dangerous ammunition into the public at large. Two years ago the Defense was blasted by the Office of the Auditor General of Norway for their lack of control over weapons and ammunition. |
