Interracial Respect - A GunandGame Surprise

Regarding a recent thread about Black History Month, which I think went a bit off topic, I think a few comments were made that were NOT appropriate, and then taken out of context or proportion by others.

My impression was that many comments were made by people so frustrated by certain so called "tolerance" movements in our society, ones that claiming to bring a race equal attention but end up inappropriately placing it above others, that they showed resentment instead of an appropriate respect to another race as equals.

Well, off I go to the StarTrek.com forum, where I expect it to be full of socialist liberal Democrat one-world-government loving, "we-are-the-world" hand-holding singing, everybody's-equal-nobody's-better-than-anyone-else... well, basically humanist pipe-dream visionaries who would be the farthest thing from racial bigots.
Imagine my surprise when I see threads full of extreme stereotypical, generalizing, well basically stuff like "Why can't blacks be real men" and such, discussing African descended Americans in the most arbitrarily accusative fashion I've seen in a long time... Heck, worst I've seen since randomly coming accross a screwed up gun board containing Neo-Nazis and those who use guns for "sexual purposes"
My Stargate SG1 forum, sg1archive.com, is a bit better, but I'm amazed at how ignorant and stereotyping some of them can be as well.
And then, of course, there's gunsnet, whose forums aren't all that dirty but are far from "sensitive" or "tolerant". While it's full of decent people, some members have profiles that suggest some not-so-insignificant generalized resentment.

So my point is that while we may need a hand slapping and mouth scrubbing from time to time, we really are one of the cleanest, most conscientiously tolerant, most interracially friendly forums that I've ever seen. So let's give each other a hand and make sure we're treating people of all races with respect, making sure we don't do in our own way what people on the other side of the political scale do, like try to compensate.

Next time people whine about some sort of reparations, you have something new to pull on them - "Trying to compensate for your inadequacy, are ya?"

I just don't want to read about how they feel here..the anti-2nd Amendment crowd is trying to use the divide and conquer tactics on gun owners. Saying Joe or anybody else shouldn't be able to own an AK-47 because you can't hunt with it..we've got enough political enemies..

I also feel very strongly that there are people who have recently made the decision to arm themselves..some are women, some are minorities..some will go on the internet and do some research...and some may end up here..:nod: I'd like them to feel welcome

hay i ahte everone one equaly so theres no problems with anyone of any race here, now the groups out there that are as BRG3 put it trying to promote. yah i get tired of hearing it but its just that frustration over hearing it all the time not hatefull feelings tword anyone of any race. ok can we exsclude lawyers and politicians in what i just said. i really havent met any of those i realy ilke. he he he

I too get tired of the Jesse Jackson's of the world trying to force an unfair agenda down my throat; I also get tired of hearing how all gun owners are redneck hicks with a 6th grade education.

Neither are true of the majority and our comments should reflect that.

I agree as well. The problem is that people see a color and presume a culture, or see a style of dress and presume a religion. I wonder how many overly dressed Arab women we see and presume are Muslims who are actually persecuted Christians.

While we're at it...why don't we have white this and that groups? Seems only fair to me.

Along that same line of thinking...why don't we have more white economic financial institutions. Seems only fair to me.

Or...much better yet...why not totally avoid using terms like black, white, red, brown, handicapped or anything remotely related to race, creed, relgion, sex, etc. when naming an event, institution, competition, or group? Seems only fair to me.

Point well taken Ox; It is interesting how a group that wishes to be treated as equal as the majority would use descriptive terms in labeling themselves that isolates themselves along the same lines that they were trying to escape from.

One asks; could you have a WET network? What would you show on it if you did?

Stupidity knows no bounds BRG3. As a fellow trekker on the gameing end I have seen plenty of it in game rooms as well. Kind of amazing when you consider how racially progressive Gene Rodenberries Star Trek was/is. I also agree that the problem isn't race but cultural. I have seen plenty of white trash that rivals the worst the ghetto has to offer.

now now groing up with the original star treck there was alot of racially related subject mater in the show, note all races of man worked side by side with no conflict but, they had romulan, clingons, ferengy and the occational racial remark about vulcans. but all races of man, much like in a conflict here pull together and work as one. out there we had to work together with no racial seperations, we did the same thing here during 9-11 you didn't hear any racial slander or bickering while the brave men and woman in NYC tried to cope with the desasterouse attack on our nation, and NYC was ripe with it just an hour before the first plane hit.
in my narrow view point we will always have racial sereration and hatred untill we can all see ourselves as "MAN" and not as white , yellow, black, red or what have you.
