One of my reasons for wanting a revolver is that I want to load blackpowder rounds. I want to have some of the classic smell, feel, and sights of them. Anyone have experience with such loads, ie do they have ballistics worth a darn, even if slower?
I think I read here that you should fill the case to the top and compact the BP by pressing the bullet in. Should the finest black powder be used then? I use FF preferred, but occasionally FFF in my flintlock musket.

Some oldtimers may remember reloading .38 Spl. or .44 Spl. cases with blackpowder. You filled the case nearly full (no fancy measuring needed) and seated the bullet so that it compressed the powder.
I remember the .38 loads kicked like any other .38 Spl. Accuracy was good. Ballistically similar to the standard police .38's of the era.
Don't worry about FFg or FFFg. In a cartridge you won't notice the difference.
Remember to clean the cases as well as the gun. Blackpowder residue will corrode brass cases. Any rimmed caliber (.38, .44, .45) should work well with blackpowder. Good luck.
